Our verdict

The Sharp GP6765 television has many positive features that distinguish it within its price range. First and foremost, the Google TV system provides users with great flexibility and comfort in using various applications and content. The intuitive interface, support for Polish language searches, and the ability to use the Google voice assistant make navigation on the television enjoyable and simple. Thanks to this platform, users can access a wide range of streaming applications, making it easy to watch films and series in high quality without the need to connect additional devices. The quality of the picture in films does not disappoint - especially in this price range. In the tested film scenes, the television performs excellently with colour transitions, placing it among the top models in this category. Although this model has some drawbacks, such as not the highest brightness - but not the lowest when looking at competing models - the implementation of Dolby Vision significantly enhances picture quality, allowing for better detail reproduction in bright and dark scenes. For gamers, a notable advantage is the low input lag of only 13 ms, allowing for smooth and responsive gaming. The television also demonstrates very good compatibility with computers, offering support for chroma 4:4:4, which translates into excellent text readability and image clarity. It is important to remember that the television has a 60hz panel - like all in this price range, so its performance in sports or games may be limited. Additionally, some gamers may be quite disappointed by the lack of certain essential features, despite the presence of HDMI 2.1. The Sharp GP6765 is a solid choice that offers many advantages, such as a great Google TV system, excellent fluidity of tonal transitions, and low input lag. At the same time, this model requires certain compromises, especially in terms of brightness and some features for gamers. Nevertheless, for those seeking a television at an affordable price, the GP6765 may prove to be an attractive option.

The U7Q PRO is a television that, after just a few minutes, sends a clear signal: "speed matters here." Hisense surprised us with how much has been packed into a device that doesn't cost a fortune. A refresh rate of 165 Hz in 4K, and even 288 Hz in Full HD – until recently, such numbers were reserved exclusively for top-tier gaming monitors. And here we have a mid-range television with almost a complete set of features for gamers, confidently throwing down the gauntlet to much pricier competitors. However, it doesn't stop at speed-related attributes. The U7Q PRO also boasts a very bright screen, reaching up to 1500 nits at its peak. Like every Mini-LED, it has its typical "quirks" associated with this technology, sometimes slightly exaggerating the image, but the overall visual effect remains very positive – especially in HDR content. It's also worth mentioning the Vidaa operating system – fast, intuitive, and equipped with features such as AirPlay, a voice assistant, and a web browser. While we won't find the full range of applications known from Android, the system performs really well in everyday use. So why is it "almost" ideal for gamers? The only missing feature is HGiG, which allows for precise adjustments of brightness levels in HDR games. This is a minor flaw, but it may be significant for console purists. Nevertheless, the U7Q PRO remains a very solid proposition – and a testament that Chinese manufacturers have not only caught up with their competition from Korea and Japan but in some aspects have even begun to surpass it.

GP6765 is equipped with a VA panel, which is characterised by better contrast compared to IPS panels. VA panels offer deeper blacks and more pronounced differences between bright and dark areas of the image, making them a better choice for viewing in darkened rooms. This model features Direct LED backlighting, which distributes light evenly across the screen, but the lack of local dimming results in some limitations in black reproduction. As a result, during nighttime viewings, especially in high-contrast scenes, such as the scene from the film "Sicario 2," where there are many dark tones, backlight bleed may be visible. Instead of a perfectly deep black, black areas may take on a shade of navy. This phenomenon may affect the visual experience, particularly for viewers who prefer to watch films in darker conditions.

Hisense U7Q PRO is a mini-LED television with a VA panel and – in the 65-inch version we tested – 560 local dimming zones. It's worth noting from the outset that this number varies depending on the size – larger screens will have more zones, while smaller ones will have fewer accordingly. However, regardless of this, the dimming system works really well here.

The contrast performs exceptionally well for the price range in which this model sits. In optimal conditions, the U7Q PRO can achieve results close to six-figure values, which not long ago was reserved for equipment at a much higher level. In practice – in scenes like the one from the film Oblivion – the image looks stunning. With slightly dimmed light in the room, it can be difficult at first glance to distinguish this television from organic screens. Of course, it is still an LCD with local dimming, so compromises are unavoidable. In more demanding scenes, where there are many small light sources, the U7Q PRO tends to dim too aggressively. Instead of a slight deterioration in black levels – some details that should be visible disappear. This is a side effect of the algorithm that strongly adheres to the rule of "black should be black," even at the cost of subtle image elements.

But nevertheless – contrast is one of the stronger points of this model.

In film mode, the television Sharp GP6765 reaches a brightness level of 300 nits, unfortunately, this is quite an average result. Such brightness is closer to the standard SDR image than to what should be offered by a full HDR experience. As a result, the television is unable to convey the full depth and dynamics of the image that one could expect from a good HDR mode. The visual effects that appear vivid and detailed in other models may seem muted here, and high-contrast scenes will not look as impressive. However, it is worth noting that when comparing this result with televisions in this budget, it is a decent score. A positive feature is the fact that the television supports a wide colour gamut of DCI-P3 at 92.5% thanks to the implementation of quantum dots (Quantum Dot/QLED). This is quite a respectable result, especially in this price category. As a result, the colours are vibrant and more saturated, which certainly affects the picture quality, although it does not fully salvage the HDR experience due to limited brightness.

U7Q PRO is truly a bright television. In synthetic tests, it achieved over 1500 nits, which is an outstanding result for this price range. Such brightness – at least in theory – allows for HDR content to be displayed as intended by the creators, even in more demanding scenes with strong lighting. In practice, it is often very good, but not always perfect. In bright scenes with large areas – like the test chart with intense sunlight from the movie "Pan" – the U7Q PRO makes a huge impression. It can almost dazzle with its brightness, which is definitely an advantage in the context of HDR content. Unfortunately, it doesn't always manage to maintain this when many small bright details appear on a dark background. In such moments, the local dimming algorithms choose to dim some bright elements to maintain good black levels – and the side effect is that some details simply disappear from the frame. This is a classic compromise in mini-LED televisions – and the U7Q PRO is no exception. However, with such a large number of dimming zones, one could have hoped for a slightly more mature algorithm responsible for their control. Fortunately, the overall perception of HDR content is decidedly positive. The U7Q PRO is not only bright but also colourful, thanks to the PFS LED (QLED) coating, the coverage of the DCI-P3 colour palette is at 95%, while BT.2020 is around 73%.

Sharp GP6765 was launched in movie mode, which is the best setting for colour reproduction. Unfortunately, despite this, the quality still falls short of ideal standards. Starting with white balance, in SDR mode, the graph shows significant increases in the case of the red colour. This effect can make the image appear slightly yellowed, leading to distortion of natural skin tones. As a result, viewers may notice that some scenes seem unnatural, and colours lose their authenticity. In HDR mode, the situation changes dramatically – the dominant colour becomes blue. Such a strong shift towards blue also negatively affects the colour balance of the image, which can lead to loss of detail in cool tones. Viewers may feel that the image is somewhat cold and out of balance, which further emphasises the fact that the television does not achieve optimal colour reproduction. Tests carried out using the Colour Checker tool confirm these shifts in several tested samples.

As for contrast, in HD mode, the range shows a significant jump at the beginning of the graph, but then remains close to the reference line at 2.4. This means that in most scenes, the television is able to deliver a satisfactory level of contrast. For the viewer, this translates into better perception of details in shadows and greater depth of the image, which affects their overall experience when watching films and TV programmes. In HDR mode, however, the EOTF curve displays large fluctuations both at the beginning and at the end of the graph. Such fluctuations can lead to inconsistencies in the reproduction of details in bright and dark areas of the image. For the viewer, this means that in scenes with intense light, such as explosions or dynamic actions, crucial details may disappear, and the image can appear blurred. Conversely, in darker parts of the image, the lack of clear differences in shades can cause details to merge into a uniform blob, significantly reducing the quality of viewing. Although movie mode offers the best factory settings in the GP6765, both in terms of colour reproduction and contrast, it still has significant issues.

We tested the U7Q PRO in the best possible picture mode offered by this model – Filmmaker Mode. And indeed, this mode performs the best in terms of colour reproduction. However, that doesn't mean it's perfect. In our test unit, both in SDR and HDR content, the image had a slightly cooler tone. The white balance was skewed towards blue, giving the overall impression of being a bit "colder". It may not be glaring, but it is definitely noticeable – especially on white backgrounds, which seemed slightly bluish rather than neutral. Additionally – as we mentioned earlier – the television has a tendency to slightly brighten and oversaturate the image, which is also confirmed by the gamma and EOTF graphs. All this together means that without calibration, the image can appear somewhat unnatural – too cool, with slightly exaggerated dynamics. Therefore, we decided to carry out our own calibration – and you can see its effects and graphs below.

After calibration, in film mode, the white balance on the Sharp GP6765 television for SDR content shows a significant improvement. All lines in the graph approach the reference line. Although they are not perfectly straight, the results achieved are satisfactory, considering the price range of this model. Such an improvement in white balance translates to a more natural and accurate colour reproduction, positively affecting the overall visual experience and immersion in the films being watched. As for the gamut, the initial spike on the graph was not removed; however, after this error, the rest of the lines represent the expected effect much better, making the picture more consistent and enjoyable to perceive.

In the case of HDR content, the white balance performs somewhat worse compared to SDR content, but it is still significantly better than before calibration. The improvement in white balance in HDR contributes to greater colour consistency, making watching films more enjoyable, even though there may be some shortcomings. Speaking of contrast, it is difficult to mention a significant improvement here. Our specialists noted that the lack of control over the dynamic tone mapping settings hindered achieving a significant improvement in EOTF, leading to uneven brightness representation.

Despite some shortcomings related to the lack of settings options for dynamic tone mapping, the Sharp GP6765 television has gained a new identity after proper calibration. The enhanced white balance and better colour reproduction in SDR mode make the image more natural and pleasing to the eye. Although there are still areas that require improvement, especially in HDR content, the television offers a satisfying visual experience, making it an interesting choice within its price range.

Thanks to the calibration, we managed to tame the white balance in SDR and HDR content. In the case of SDR materials, the effect is really very good – the image becomes neutral, cohesive, and simply pleasant to take in. Everything looks as it should.

HDR performs a bit worse. Although the white balance appears correct and the image overall gains in naturalness, unfortunately, the delta E errors remain noticeable. Why? Because Hisense does not give us full control over how the television manages brightness in HDR mode with the U7Q PRO model. This is where the limitation comes into play. When we look at the EOTF curve for HDR content, we can clearly see what we mentioned earlier – at the beginning of the graph, there is a distinct drop, meaning the television darkens the smallest areas more than it should. On the other hand – the brightest elements can sometimes be overly bright. As a result, some details get lost, others are too aggressive, and overall control over brightness does not always match what we are trying to achieve during calibration.

Does the image look better after calibration? Definitely yes, in terms of colour. But when it comes to managing brightness in HDR, we have to accept that the Hisense U7Q PRO will do it in its own way.

Smoothness of tonal transitions

The fluidity of tonal transitions is one of the biggest advantages of the Sharp GP6765 television. This model performs excellently, so there is no concern about the immersion being disrupted by this negative effect. In the tested film scenes, no significant problems with colour transitions to darker or lighter shades were observed. Such effective reproduction of tones means that the television ranks among the best models available on the market, especially in terms of the smoothness of colour gradation. As a result, viewers can enjoy a more immersive experience.

The U7Q PRO handles tonal transitions really well. Colours blend smoothly, without any banding, stripes or strange artefacts. Even in more challenging scenes that typically expose any imperfections – there was nothing to criticise here. The image simply looks clean. Gradients – both coloured and grey – are smooth, nothing tears, nothing distracts. This is one of those elements that you don’t pay attention to while watching… certainly not in the case of the U7Q PRO.

On the Sharp GP6765 television, the "10-bit colour reproduction" feature performs well in the tested scene with light bulbs. Setting this option to "medium" yields satisfactory results, as there are no issues with grain smoothing or blurring of significant elements of the image. Setting it to "low" also produces positive results, offering a clear picture without negatively impacting the details. Such smoothing options for tonal transitions contribute to an improvement in visual quality, enabling more natural colour transitions.

In the context of image scaling, the Sharp GP6765 television has its strengths, such as the absence of overscan when displaying test material. This allows viewers to enjoy a full picture without losing any detail from the edges. However, in the tested scene with the model, there are some shortcomings. The branches and trousers do not look their best. Their outlines appear slightly jagged, suggesting that effective edge smoothing techniques have not been applied. This causes some details to look slightly distorted, which can affect the overall visual experience.

If someone happens to come across older materials where the colour banding issue occurs – Hisense has a solution for that. In the U7Q PRO, we find a function called "Smooth and Gradient Image". Set to the "Medium" level, it works really well – removing most issues with gradation while not smoothing out the entire image, like blurring in Photoshop. 😉 Film grain remains, details do not disappear – this is exactly how it should work. Well done on the implementation!

As for upscaling weaker materials, it is simply good. It is not at the level of the most expensive televisions with advanced upscaling, but older content looks good. There is minor aliasing at very low resolutions, but this is completely normal and hard to avoid. On the plus side – even with the oldest materials, there is no overscan effect, the image is neither cropped nor artificially stretched.

When it comes to trailing and motion smoothness, the Sharp GP6765 television performs rather mediocrely. It is equipped with a 60 Hz refresh rate panel, which suffices in the context of films. The television has a motion enhancement feature called "Motion Improvement". Thanks to this feature, we can control the fluidity of motion, allowing us to choose whether the image should appear with film-like frames or be smoother - theatrical. This enhancer should satisfy most users who focus on film content. However, when it comes to sports or gaming, Sharp does not perform at its best. In the tested scene with the UFO alien, there is noticeable blurriness, suggesting that the low response time of the panel negatively impacts the sharpness of moving objects. Such effects can be particularly frustrating during dynamic sequences where quick movements are common. For those who prefer watching sports or intense video games, the limitations in motion smoothness may be discouraging, making the Sharp GP6765 not necessarily the ideal choice in this category.

“Speed” – this word came up most often during our tests of the U7Q PRO. The television is equipped with a 165 Hz panel, which is impressive in itself – especially since we are talking about a model in the mid-range price category. Of course, PC gamers will benefit the most from its full capabilities, but even with everyday viewing, it's clear that this is a fast and efficient panel. Like most modern televisions, the U7Q PRO can also enhance the fluidity of films that were originally recorded at 24 frames. In the menu, we find a slider that allows us to adjust the effect to our own preferences – from a more cinematic look, with subtle motion, to stronger smoothing with the characteristic “telenovela effect.”

The functionality of Sharp's GP6765 for gamers leaves much to be desired. Although this model is equipped with HDMI 2.1 ports, which in theory should offer a range of modern conveniences, in practice the situation is far worse. The only feature that truly utilises the capabilities of this standard is Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). Unfortunately, the lack of support for key features such as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) or HDR Gaming Interest Group (HGIG) makes this television a less attractive choice for gamers. VRR is crucial for eliminating issues with tearing and stuttering, which is particularly important in dynamic games where image fluidity is key. Meanwhile, HGIG allows for optimal HDR reproduction, enhancing immersion and visual quality. While it might seem that the implementation of Dolby Vision would bring significant benefits, it is completely useless for gamers due to the very high input lag in this mode.

One could say that the presence of HDMI 2.1 ports in Sharp GP6765 is a marketing trap that may mislead users into thinking that the HDMI standard automatically entails all its conveniences. Expecting full functionality, which should go hand in hand with HDMI 2.1, could lead to disappointment.

The Hisense U7Q PRO is a television that seems almost designed with gamers in mind. It has practically everything one could expect from a gaming display: variable refresh rate (VRR), automatic low latency mode (ALLM), and as many as four HDMI 2.1b ports with full bandwidth of 48 Gb/s. Additionally, there is a clear and quite functional Game Bar, as well as a well-implemented Dolby Vision GAMING mode that works seamlessly with Xbox Series S and X consoles.

Sounds like perfection? Well, almost. Unfortunately, Hisense has still not implemented the HGiG feature, which means the system limitation of tone mapping on the television side. This means that when configuring HDR brightness on the console, we do it "by eye" or search for settings in online guides, as the display does not show the actual range of its brightness. It’s a pity – because HGiG indeed makes it easier to match the console to the television and helps avoid overexposure or overly dark scenes in HDR games.

Fortunately, the other features work very well. Input lag is low, responsiveness is excellent, and the handling of other functions is impeccable. And while not everything worked perfectly, the U7Q PRO can still be recommended to gamers without hesitation.

When it comes to input lag, the Sharp GP6765 television stands out with very good results. Both in SDR and HDR modes, the input lag is only 13 ms, making it an excellent choice for gamers who expect quick response and precise control. Such a low level of input lag allows for smooth and seamless gaming experiences, which is crucial in dynamic situations. However, it is disappointing that the Dolby Vision mode proves to be useless for gamers, as its input lag is as high as 120 ms. This result is significantly higher than in the other modes and can cause delays in response, which can be frustrating in action or racing games.

In terms of signal latency, the Hisense U7Q PRO performs really well. For 120 Hz content, the input lag remains below 10 ms, which translates to a lightning-fast response – the screen almost instantly reacts to our movements, something console and PC gamers will particularly appreciate. With 60 Hz content, the situation is somewhat worse, as the response time doubles – this is natural and applies to virtually all televisions. Nevertheless, it still remains below 20 ms, which can be confidently considered a very good result, even close to perfection – and in practice, it is hardly noticeable during gaming.

As for working on a computer, the television Sharp GP6765 performs excellently. With support for chroma 4:4:4, it offers great readability of fonts, and browsing websites, office work, or watching multimedia is not an issue. It is worth noting that the television has no problems with the visibility of dark shapes, which further enhances comfort when working in various lighting conditions. Users can enjoy a clear and detailed image. This is particularly important during longer usage. Another advantage is the low input lag of just 13 ms in PC mode. However, the television is equipped with a 60 Hz panel and does not support G-Sync, which may be a downside for PC gamers. As a result, its rating in this category is lower – it will perform well for everyday computer work, but in games, especially dynamic ones, there is a lack of smoothness that is crucial for seamless gameplay.

Playing on PC using the Hisense U7Q PRO is pure fun. Low input lag, full 165 Hz in 4K and even 288 Hz in Full HD - these are numbers we wouldn’t expect from a television at this price. In this regard, it’s really hard to fault anything. If someone is looking for a large screen for gaming from a PC - the U7Q PRO can confidently serve as a monitor. It performs slightly worse for everyday work with text. Although chroma 4:4:4 is present, so theoretically everything should look good. But in practice, grey fonts on a dark background look strange – vertical lines are sharp, but horizontal ones can blur, disappear, or appear slightly dimmed. However, it must be honestly added that if you use the television as usual – that is, from a few metres away – you probably won’t notice this. The problem only becomes visible when someone places the U7Q PRO on a desk, a metre from their face, and starts working with text or spreadsheets. If you plan to use it in that way – it’s worth keeping this in mind.

The viewing angles of the Sharp GP6765 television are one of its weaker points, which is typical for VA panels. Although these panels offer good contrast performance and deep blacks, their performance in terms of viewing angle is significantly limited. When viewed from the side, the image loses brightness and colour saturation, leading to noticeable distortions. This can be problematic, especially in situations where the television is viewed by a larger group of people from different positions. In such cases, people sitting at the side may notice that colours become more washed out and contrast decreases, negatively affecting the overall visual experience.

For those who plan to use the television mainly alone or with a close group, this may not be a significant issue. However, for larger gatherings or family movie nights, the limited viewing angles can be frustrating.

In this regard, the U7Q PRO performs moderately. The television is equipped with a VA panel, which inherently is not known for wide viewing angles. When we start looking at the screen at an angle, the image noticeably loses brightness, and the colours begin to wash out. This is a completely normal phenomenon in VA panels without additional coatings that widen the angles – so if you plan to watch from the side or in a larger group, it’s worth keeping this in mind. On the other hand, directly in front – the image looks great, with deep blacks and very good contrast, much better than on IPS/ADS type panels.

In the context of daytime viewing, the television Sharp GP6765 performs average. Despite the use of a satin screen, the television struggles with reflections of bright objects, which can be problematic in bright rooms. Additionally, the maximum brightness of only 265 nits significantly limits the viewing comfort in well-lit conditions. At such a brightness level, images can appear washed out and difficult to discern, resulting in a loss of contrast and detail in a more illuminated environment. Those planning to use the television in bright rooms or during the day may be disappointed with its performance. If one intends to watch films or television programmes under such conditions, it is worth considering alternative models that offer higher brightness and better resistance to light reflections.

As we mentioned earlier – the U7Q PRO is really a bright television, especially when it comes to HDR content. For SDR material, the television dims a bit, but an average brightness of around 500 nits is still a very solid result. This means that it's easy to watch television or movies even in quite a bright room. Only in very extreme lighting conditions – for example, strong sunlight directly on the screen – can visibility be somewhat affected. Fortunately, Hisense has applied a satin anti-reflective coating that effectively suppresses reflections, and the blacks retain their depth even during the day. This makes a difference and allows for comfortable use of the television in various lighting conditions.

The central element of the model is the Google TV system, which provides easy access to favourite applications, streaming services, and video content. The interface is intuitive and supports searching in Polish, allowing for quick discovery of interesting content. Users can take advantage of Google Assistant, which enables voice control of the television. This makes interaction with the device more natural, and issuing commands regarding playback or changing settings is incredibly simple. The television also supports connecting various devices, such as mice or headphones, which increases its functionality. With the mouse, navigation through the Google TV interface becomes more comfortable, and headphones allow for discreet viewing of favourite content without disturbing the surroundings.

Unfortunately, the television also has certain limitations. It lacks the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature, which may be problematic for those who want to watch two sources simultaneously, such as a film and a sports broadcast. Additionally, the lack of recording capability limits the use of on-demand television, and the absence of AirPlay can be frustrating for users of Apple devices who would like to easily stream content to the television screen. The Sharp GP6765 is a television with a solid set of features that will certainly meet the expectations of many users, but may be less suitable for those looking for more advanced multimedia options.

Classic Features of U7Q PRO

If you plan to use the television in a more "classic" way, that is, for watching daily programs or connecting headphones, the Hisense U7Q PRO has almost everything you might expect. The television easily supports recording to USB, you can connect headphones via Bluetooth, and the remote control is backlit, which still isn't standard even in more expensive models. Although many people today forgo these classic features in favour of streaming applications, it's good to know that the U7Q PRO still does this properly and without compromises (apart from the lack of PiP functionality).

SmartTV System: Vidaa

When it comes to smart features, this model operates on the VIDAA system in Europe. The system runs smoothly, has a built-in web browser, supports voice control (also in Polish), and AirPlay, which will delight users of Apple devices. However, it's worth noting that VIDAA is a closed system, so you won't find all the popular applications that we have gotten used to with Android TV or Google TV. Before purchasing, it's advisable to check if the apps you actually use are available.

Thanks to the Google TV system, the Sharp GP6765 provides users with great flexibility in playing files from USB. The ability to install various multimedia playback applications, such as VLC or MX Player, ensures that the device easily supports most popular file formats. Whether it’s movies, music or photos, support for multiple formats allows for convenient and smooth access to content stored on external drives.

The built-in media player in the VIDAA system functioned very efficiently and without issues on our U7Q PRO unit. The television effortlessly read external video and audio files, as well as subtitles, making it convenient to watch films from a USB stick or external drive. Most popular formats worked flawlessly, so there was no need to convert anything. The only drawback was a certain selectivity in handling high-resolution images – not all of them opened. When it comes to sound, the television Sharp GP6765 has several significant shortcomings. Firstly, it lacks bass, which may be disappointing for those who prefer deeper tones. Nevertheless, the sound is loud and relatively clear, which can be beneficial for individuals with hearing problems. It is worth noting, however, that for the high tones to sound decent, it is necessary to turn off the "Dolby sound processing" option. Otherwise, the sound becomes very "shrill," negatively impacting the overall listening experience. However, it should be remembered that this assessment is subjective and may vary depending on individual listening preferences.

Considering the standards of built-in television speakers, the U7Q PRO sounds surprisingly good. The sound is clear, with distinct mid and high tones, and the bass – although limited – doesn’t completely disappear. It can be said that for "television speakers," the level is more than satisfactory. However, it's worth noting that in our test unit we could not play sound in DTS:X format from local files – the television simply does not support it. This means that if you are counting on a cinematic spatial effect solely from its built-in speakers, there might be a certain disappointment. Fortunately, the television smoothly passes the DTS signal to an external amplifier, so if you have a home cinema – just connect it and everything works as it should.
