Our verdict

Philips PUS7009 is a model that is best suited for simple, everyday use. Thanks to its IPS matrix, it offers wide viewing angles, which means that the picture looks good even if we are not sitting directly in front of it. This device is mainly suitable for watching television, browsing photos or using basic applications. For gamers, PUS7009 has several interesting options, such as ALLM, VRR and Game Bar. It is not equipment for those who expect top-notch fluidity or quality, but it is perfectly sufficient for occasional console gaming. A significant advantage is also the readability of fonts – if someone plans to connect a computer and work with text, the television performs quite well. As for the picture quality, it is not ideal here. The blacks are rather grey, the contrast is low, and the brightness is limited. If we want to watch something in a brightly lit room, we may be disappointed. And what about HDR? It’s better to forget about it, as the lack of Dolby Vision support and limited technical capabilities mean that HDR content does not make much of an impression. The biggest downside is probably the operating system, TitanOS. It has few applications and works quite clumsily – sometimes it stutters, and the interface can be irritating. If someone has previously used Android TV, TitanOS may seem like a step backwards. Philips PUS7009 is a television that performs well in basic tasks – watching television, simple gaming or browsing photos. However, if we care about good picture quality or an efficient operating system, it is better to look for another model. This is equipment for people who do not need fancy features but simply want a solid television for everyday use.

The TCL C69K / Q6C is a TV that perfectly targets gamers and movie fans on a reasonable budget. Its biggest strength is the combination of a VA panel with Mini-LED backlighting. Simply put, contrast is high and blacks are deep, making evening movie sessions look truly impressive. Add to that a 144 Hz refresh rate, which does wonders not only for sports but especially for gaming. And for gamers, it’s a full package: HDMI 2.1, VRR, ALLM, HGiG, and even a 240 Hz option for PC. Throw in Dolby Vision, which gives movies a cinematic touch, and you get a picture that’s just pleasing to the eye. On the software side, it runs Google TV with the Gemini AI assistant, so there’s no shortage of apps. The sound system holds up well too — Dolby Atmos and DTS support are nice additions, complemented by branded Onkyo speakers. Of course, it’s not perfect. The local dimming system can sometimes struggle in complex scenes, slightly lifting black levels. And those Polish translations in the menu... let’s just say they could use some work. Still, the C69K / Q6C makes a very strong case for itself. Considering the price, it’s one of the most interesting all-around TVs for both movies and gaming. Definitely worth watching out for during sales — and hoping for TCL’s usual post-launch firmware improvements.

The Philips PUS7009 television, available in 43" and 55" variants, is equipped with an IPS panel, which unfortunately does not bode well for achieving deep blacks. The results are exceptionally poor, and the television simply does not meet expectations in this aspect. Due to the limitations of the panel, the blacks resemble more shades of grey, which makes the picture quality in darker scenes leave much to be desired. For this reason, we do not recommend this model for watching at night with the lights turned off, as the lack of adequate contrast spoils the experience of movie screenings. It is possible that the situation could be improved by the Ambilight system, which can trick the perceived contrast, but unfortunately, it is not available in this model.

The heart of the image in TCL C69K / Q6C is the VA panel (specifically HVA from TCL CSOT), which offers a solid native contrast of around 6000–7000:1, even before local dimming is activated. However, the true strength of this model lies in the Mini-LED backlighting with the ability to dim individual zones. In the 55-inch unit we tested, we counted around 180 of them (this value increases with the diagonal size). For this price segment, the contrast is indeed very impressive. In less complex film scenes, for example in segments from "Oblivion," it presents excellently, and shots immersed in black are very striking. Nevertheless, the characteristics of Mini-LED technology mean that we do not always avoid issues – in more demanding frames with many bright details, halo effects or excessive dimming of certain elements may occur (regardless of the selected local dimming settings). All in all, contrast is undoubtedly a strong point of the C69K / Q6C.

In terms of HDR effect quality, PUS7009 (IPS) performs very poorly. A brightness level of 250 nits does not allow for enjoyment of HDR effects, and the image resembles a more standard SDR. There is no talk of dynamic effects or vivid bursts of light. The coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut is only 75%, which is decidedly insufficient. The lack of full colour coverage means that the colours are not as vibrant as they should be, resulting in a flat and unconvincing image. There are no aspects for which this model could be praised in the context of HDR.

In terms of brightness, TCL C69K / Q6C is a moderate model. In optimal film conditions, it shows its full potential, achieving a maximum of around 600 nits. In scenes with large, intense light sources, the HDR effect can be truly satisfying, providing a cinematic shimmer. However, it should be noted that when managing backlight zones, there are situations where parts of the image become dimmed, and sometimes they are barely visible. This suggests that there is still a lack of proper optimisation of the algorithms; however, considering the technical parameters in this price range, the design itself still presents very well.

The television was tested in film mode, which – despite its name – does not provide accurate image display. The white balance in both 4K HDR and HD/SDR content is characterised by drops in red, causing the image to appear cooler and the colours to lose their natural warmth. The gamma brightness characteristics and the EOTF curve confirm that the television has issues maintaining appropriate brightness – it heavily boosts it, resulting in an unnaturally washed-out image. This effect can be seen in the comparisons below, where the entire image appears as if it has a milky filter applied. Additionally, the limited coverage of a wide colour gamut also does not favour quality – colour checker tests indicate significant colour variations, making it difficult to achieve faithful image reproduction.

The Filmmaker mode, which has made its debut in this year's TCL televisions (including the C69K / Q6C), is definitely the best choice "to start with." This is the mode we recommend for daily film and series viewings. Unfortunately, as is often the case, best does not mean perfect. In SDR material, the image proved to be too warm, with a pronounced red tint in the white balance. We had the opposite impression with HDR content – here the image became cooler than it should, due to an excess of blue. Additionally, there is the characteristic of brightness, which at times resulted in overexposure. In practice, this translated into quite noticeable errors in colour tests, which is difficult to accept in a mode branded as "from the creators."

After calibration, the picture has significantly improved, especially in terms of white balance, which is now more stable, and the shades have taken on a natural quality, eliminating the previous impression of a picture that was too cool. Calibration has brought noticeable benefits in terms of tonality – shadows and midtones are now more realistic, and the overall effect seems more harmonious. Unfortunately, hardware limitations still affect the quality of the image. The brightness characteristics remain problematic, despite our efforts, and due to the poor coverage of the DCI-P3 and BT.2020 colour gamut, delta E errors are still at a high level. Although calibration has improved some aspects, the television still does not allow for complete satisfaction.

Through white balance correction, we were able to significantly reduce the tendency of C69K / Q6C to distort colours, which yielded a very good final result. After calibration, the issue of excessive warming of scenes in SDR and excessive cooling of the image in HDR disappeared. However, it is worth analysing the brightness characteristics more closely. While in SDR content it is hard to have major objections – the image looks really good, especially in older films, TV programmes or on YouTube – it performs significantly worse in the case of HDR content. Analysis of the EOTF curve suggests that everything is fine, yet in practice (EOTF in films) the limitations of the design itself become apparent. This model has a tendency to excessively brighten small parts of the frame, only to overly dim the entire scene in other situations. The effect of calibration is therefore undeniable, and in terms of colour reproduction, C69K / Q6C gains a lot. Unfortunately, certain limitations arising from local dimming management simply cannot be bypassed.

The tonal gradient transitions in Philips PUS7009 are at a good level, without apparent issues that could negatively affect the reception of content. With careful viewing, one can notice some minor imperfections in the bright, colourful transitions; however, they are subtle enough not to pose a problem for most users.

In the model C69K / Q6C, tonal transitions (between colours) are very smooth, and it is difficult to notice any banding. The image appears natural, and any minor imperfections are only visible on bright test screens, and that requires very careful scrutiny. In everyday viewing, the effect is simply outstanding. It can be confidently stated that in this category, C69K / Q6C performs exceptionally well.

When it comes to tonal transitions in low-quality material, a feature named "Distortion Reduction" (set to "minimum") effectively improves gradation, eliminating ugly tonal transitions. However, this setting on Philips televisions is quite aggressive – while it does not blur the grain or good-quality material, it can introduce undesirable effects and blur elements that should remain sharp when the signal is poorer.

In terms of image scaling, Philips PUS7009 performs reasonably well. A significant advantage is the absence of cropped image edges, meaning no overscan, which allows for the display of the full frame without loss. The image is noticeably enhanced, making characters and backgrounds, such as the model or branches in the background, appear quite detailed and natural, even with lower quality signals. Although scaling is not perfect, as it can remove desirable details in the distance, the results are good enough to satisfy most users.

In terms of image scaling, TCL C69K / Q6C performs quite well. Lower quality content appears acceptable, and thanks to the lack of overscan issues, the image is displayed in full without any cropping. However, one should not expect miracles – very low-quality materials will not gain a second life here, as the image processor has its limitations.

Thin lines and details exhibit characteristic tearing, which reveals the absence of more advanced image enhancement algorithms. It is also a pity that the C69K / Q6C lacks a tone transition smoothing feature. As a result, in older films or video materials, banding of colours can be visible and may become distracting during prolonged viewing.

Philips PUS7009 does not have any motion smoothing features for films, which means we cannot choose whether the picture should be more choppy or more cinematic. These features could improve more dynamic scenes. As for motion blur, despite using a 60Hz IPS panel, the situation looks quite good. The response time between pixels is better than in versions with a VA panel, which keeps motion blur at an acceptable level and does not significantly affect the comfort of watching dynamic scenes.

The use of a 144 Hz panel in TCL C69K / Q6C is a significant advantage in this price range. It represents an important step forward compared to its predecessor (C655 PRO), which only offered 60 Hz in 4K. The difference is particularly noticeable when watching sports or playing games – the ball, players, or dynamic action in games are displayed more clearly and without loss of detail. Another interesting feature is the panel's ability to work at 240 Hz (which the manufacturer does not officially mention) – we will return to this topic in relation to the PC gaming mode. TCL has also added a feature for movie fans: “Motion Clarity”. This allows users to adjust the picture to their preferences using two simple sliders. In terms of compatibility with consoles, Philips PUS7009 is suitable for casual gamers. Despite the use of HDMI 2.0, the television offers access to features such as ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), and Game Bar. ALLM automatically switches the television to low latency mode, allowing for quicker response times during gameplay, while VRR dynamically adjusts the refresh rate to reduce the tearing effect. Game Bar is a tool that provides quick access to game settings and real-time monitoring of parameters - although we believe it appears the weakest compared to competing Game Bars.

Unfortunately, more demanding gamers may be disappointed. The Philips PUS7009 does not support advanced HDR formats in games or high refresh rates, due to the use of a 60 Hz panel. The lack of support for these features limits the television's ability to deliver smooth and fully detailed experiences during dynamic gameplay.

TCL C69K / Q6C is a television that can confidently be described as equipment created with gamers in mind. Here we have 4K at 144 Hz, VRR support, automatic game mode (ALLM), and Dolby Vision Gaming. Additionally, there is a practical Game Bar, which is a panel with the most important settings conveniently at hand – useful when we want to change something quickly during gameplay (e.g. screen aspect ratio: Yes, it can be done!). The wide range of VRR, reaching up to 240 Hz, is particularly noteworthy. However, this option is mainly for PC gamers who will operate below the native 4K resolution. In that case, the television can spread its wings and show additional smoothness, especially in fast-paced e-sports titles. For consoles, we stick to the classic limit of 120 Hz, but even so, the capabilities are truly extensive. The only downside is a slight ghosting that can occasionally be seen in dynamic scenes. Other than that, C69K / Q6C offers everything that gamers expect from a television.

The input lag in PUS7009 is at a very good level – it is only 11 ms for supported resolutions. For most gamers, this low level of latency should be satisfactory, providing smooth and responsive experiences during gameplay.

In terms of input lag, TCL C69K / Q6C performs excellently. With 120 Hz content, the delay is about 10 ms, and at times even less. This is a level at which the response is practically instantaneous and difficult to find any objections. For 60 Hz material, the result is around 18 ms – still a very good result, entirely sufficient for comfortable gaming.

Philips PUS7009 is one of the better choices as a monitor for office work. The readability of the fonts is very good, regardless of the background – both on light and dark backgrounds, the text remains clear and easy to read. In daily work, especially with text and office tasks, this television performs excellently. However, computer gamers may be somewhat disappointed – the input lag in "Monitor" mode, at 43 ms, is too high to ensure comfortable gameplay in fast-paced games requiring quick reactions. The use of a 60 Hz panel and lack of support for G-Sync means that the television does not meet the standards expected by PC gamers. Therefore, the rating in this category is lower, although the device performs well for everyday computer use for work.

As a monitor for a computer, TCL C69K / Q6C performs excellently. At its native resolution, we achieve 4K at 144 Hz, and by lowering the resolution, it can reach even 240 Hz. The television also works with Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, supporting both G-Sync and FreeSync. It is also difficult to find any complaints for office work. Thanks to the support for chroma 4:4:4, the fonts are sharp and legible, and any minor imperfections are so small that they remain unnoticed in everyday use.

Philips PUS7009, thanks to the use of an IPS panel, offers fairly good viewing angles. The image remains relatively clear and uniform even when viewed from a larger angle, which is definitely a better result compared to the variant with a VA panel, where there is usually a rapid deterioration in image quality with deviations from the axis.

On the TCL C69K / Q6C, the viewing angles are typical for a VA panel. Sitting directly in front, the image looks very good, but any shift to the side results in a noticeable drop in colour saturation and brightness. The difference is particularly evident in colourful scenes – the hues become washed out, and the contrast loses its depth. Compared to IPS panels, this is clearly a weaker performance, although it is compensated by better blacks and higher native contrast.

Although the panel in the PUS7009 has been equipped with a satin coating that effectively suppresses reflections, the brightness level of 280 nits in SDR mode is simply too low for the television to perform well in brightly lit rooms. As a result, in heavily sunlit conditions, details on the screen may be difficult to discern, which reduces user comfort during the day.

In bright lighting conditions, TCL C69K / Q6C performs quite well. The panel offers decent brightness (in SDR content, it reaches around 550 nits), which allows for comfortable TV viewing in an average-lit living room, and even on days when strong light comes through the windows. This means that daytime viewing does not require complete darkening of the room. Another positive aspect is that the screen coating does a fair job of suppressing reflections, so the television does not become a "mirror" even in bright light. However, it is not at the level of top models with more advanced anti-reflective coatings – in very challenging conditions (e.g., with large windows), reflections will be noticeable.

Philips has decided this year to change its approach to the operating system, replacing the previous open system GoogleTV with its own TitanOS. As is often the case with new solutions, TitanOS is struggling with typical teething problems. Currently, it offers only basic applications, and the app store leaves much to be desired, which may disappoint users expecting a rich programme offering. Additionally, the lack of support for AirPlay and the inability to record to USB are further limitations that may affect the overall user experience.

A curiosity in the models with the TitanOS system is the new remote control, which, thanks to its backlighting, is very convenient to use. Unfortunately, its wireless functionality is not entirely consistent. The hybrid design means that sometimes you need to aim at the television, while other times you don’t – it depends on the buttons being used. This is simply annoying.

However, one positive aspect is the support for Bluetooth, which allows for the connection of a mouse or other peripheral devices. This is particularly useful when using the browser, which may serve as an alternative due to the limited availability of applications in the TitanOS app store.

Multimedia Features: Google TV

The Google TV system is undoubtedly the strongest user aspect of TCL C69K / Q6C. It gives the television its character and provides an advantage over many competitors. We receive a full package of services: from support for popular streaming applications, through support for screen mirroring, to AirPlay (so that iPhone users feel at home). Additionally, there is the Google Assistant, recently updated to Gemini AI, which not only answers questions but also efficiently executes simple commands (e.g., changing channels or searching for content in VOD). The system itself operates quite responsively. However, one cannot overlook a certain downside: the awkward translations in the Polish menu can elicit a smile but sometimes require a moment's thought to decipher their meaning.

Classic Features

In terms of classic television functions, the TCL C69K / Q6C fares rather average. We will not find USB recording or PiP mode here, which may be disappointing for some users. However, the manufacturer has not forgotten the basics: teletext television and a clear EPG are available, which still matter to certain users. In daily use, the support for external audio devices via Bluetooth is also useful. It’s a simple way to connect, for example, a speaker or headphones, which can be a practical solution for seniors. Beyond that, however, it's hard to find elements that would distinguish C69K / Q6C from its rivals – it is simply a solid but standard package of basic functions.

In terms of playing files from USB, Philips PUS7009 performs quite decently. The television plays most popular formats of images, audio, and video, and an additional plus is the support for Polish subtitles and the ability to change fonts. Unfortunately, it has issues with playing certain resolutions of images.

The built-in media player in TCL C69K / Q6C performs really well – practically all popular file formats work without major issues. There are indeed minor exceptions, particularly with less common codecs or unusual video file configurations, but in everyday use, this is rarely noticeable. The biggest advantage, however, is that the television runs on Google TV, which provides complete freedom in choosing additional software. If someone encounters a file that the standard player does not support, it's enough to install an alternative – such as VLC – and the problem disappears.

The sound on the Philips PUS7009 is rather flat and does not stand out compared to other televisions. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the television supports all popular audio formats, including Dolby and DTS, which is a plus in terms of compatibility with various audio sources.

In terms of audio, TCL C69K / Q6C performs quite well. The manufacturer has been boasting about its collaboration with the Onkyo brand for several years, and it indeed translates into sound quality. The sound is pleasant, with clear mids and a fairly clean top end, and overall it feels well-balanced. Of course, it cannot replace a full-fledged soundbar, especially regarding bass depth, but for built-in speakers in a television of this price range – it is really very good.
