Our verdict

Hisense U7KQ with a size of 100" is clearly a better television compared to the smaller diagonal variants. The proprietary VIDAA system has a similar interface to other televisions (e.g., with Google TV on board). It works quickly and efficiently. It does not freeze or contain errors. Only the built-in file player sometimes struggled with performance. However, it is worth looking at the app tests, as not all of them were available at the time of writing the review. The television's features are quite extensive, and nearly everything we tested was successfully implemented. When used during the day, the high brightness of the panel is commendable, as it can cope even in very sunlit living rooms. When watching in cinema conditions, we can expect good blacks thanks to the VA panel supported by multiple dimming zones. The screen handles low-quality content (e.g., SD channels or DVDs) relatively well; a certain downside is the lack of a function to reduce posterisation (i.e., the distinct tonal transitions). This looks much better in 4K HDR films because we have a wide colour palette and strong light effects. Support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos is another advantage, although the speakers built into the screen are rather average. Sports enthusiasts will be pleased with the 120Hz panel with a smoothing system. When connected to a console, gaming on the television is very good due to low input lag. Motion blur is moderate, which means that it is very rare to notice slight "trails" during dynamic movements on a dark background. The lack of an HGiG mode reduces the visual quality of games in HDR format, while the absence of local dimming in VRR mode makes this latter function useless. Overall, the picture quality can be described as good and adequate for its price. There are no obvious flaws or unexpected advantages here, but there is a large size.

Samsung offers two top models with 4K resolution when it comes to MiniLED technology. In this test, we took a closer look at the perhaps not so "high-end" QN95D, but rather the QN90D, which can also be found under the name QN92D. Samsung proudly calls its MiniLED televisions the NeoQLED series. It is precisely because of this technology that the television offers excellent contrast and high brightness, making movie watching an experience reminiscent of a true cinema. During everyday use, the Tizen system performed excellently. It is fast, intuitive, and allows seamless switching between applications. We also appreciated how well the television managed lower quality materials – traditional television and older films looked better than we expected, and the advanced image processing algorithms did their job. This is a television that truly enhances the reception of content that is not always in high resolution. The solar remote was a pleasant surprise for us. Although minimalist and with a limited number of buttons, it proved to be very practical – allowing us to control not only the television but also other devices, such as the decoder (Canal+) and the soundbar. This meant we could reduce the number of remotes on the table, which immediately improved usability. Additionally, solar charging – a simple idea that eliminates the need for battery replacements and aligns with ecological trends. As for the picture in different conditions, the television performs well in both bright and dark rooms. High brightness and numerous dimming zones handle most content, although sometimes in contrasty scenes a halo effect is visible. The colours are vibrant and natural, and the QLED coating adds intensity to them. For even better results, we opted for calibration – after which the picture looked even more detailed and natural, which only reinforced our belief that the QN92/QN90 is an excellent choice. And what about motion on the screen? It is absolutely smooth. The 144 Hz panel performs excellently with dynamic scenes – fast actions, sports, games – everything looks natural and without blurring. We particularly appreciated the Auto Motion Plus Game feature, which makes games running at 30 frames per second look smoother, resembling 45 frames, and at 60 Hz, motion becomes even more natural, as if operating at 90 Hz. For gamers, this is a significant advantage, especially since low input lag and features like game bar further enhance the gaming experience. This is a television that will perform well in any situation – from evening screenings to gaming marathons. The QN92D is a practical television, well-designed, and offering picture quality that is truly hard to ignore. An ideal choice for those looking for something more than just an ordinary screen for everyday content.

Halo effect and black detail visibility:

The television is equipped with a VA panel, which has a high contrast even without the support of local dimming technology. Through additional support from Mini-LED technology, the television is able to offer really good black levels, both in muted, dark scenes and in mixed ones where black is interwoven with bright elements. It is safe to say that even in the most challenging test sequences, it achieved a result above 10,000:1. With the room fully darkened, sometimes the effect of zone dimming can be seen, in the form of a slight halo effect around text or brightening areas when a bright element moves quickly across the screen. However, this is a normal occurrence that is not bothersome. The television, like most LCD screens with local dimming, has a moderate tendency to dim the image, particularly small light sources in dark scenes.

Samsung QN92D is one of the highest models of NeoQLED 4K (mini LED) from the Korean manufacturer for 2024. Although it does not offer as many local dimming zones as its more refined sibling Samsung QN92D, the number of 504 dimming zones in the 55-inch version is still impressive. The VA panel works well with this solution, providing excellent results in terms of contrast. The contrast in Samsung QN92D is outstanding for a non-OLED television. Even in challenging scenes, like those from the films "Oblivion" or "Arrival", the contrast is nearly infinite and can compete with the best televisions in the OLED segment, which is quite rare among LED-backlit televisions. However, mini LED technology has its limitations compared to organic panels, which can lead to certain issues. For example, on the latest test pattern from Pioneer, the television struggles significantly. This may be due to a very aggressive dimming algorithm, causing the mini LED lights to sometimes be unable to "decide" what to do – whether to illuminate certain elements or maintain black levels. Despite these shortcomings, Samsung QN92D is one of the best LCD televisions in terms of contrast and black levels.

Describing the HDR effect in the hundred-inch model Hisense U7KQ is not straightforward and requires broader context. As can be observed, the results are highly varied, depending on the type of scene and the intensity of the bright effects the television is meant to reproduce. In bright scenes, the device achieves over a thousand nits of brightness, which translates to vivid and realistic images – these are exactly the effects we expect from equipment of this class. Unfortunately, the situation deteriorates in darker scenes. In mixed shots, such as those in the film "Gemini Man," the television still offers good brightness at a level of 700 nits, allowing for enjoyment of high-quality content. However, problems arise in very dark scenes, where small light sources play a central role. The television does not fully utilise its capabilities here to avoid degrading the black level in adjacent areas. As a result, there is no spectacular "WOW" effect, and such frames often do not seem as if they are being produced in HDR technology.

During synthetic tests, Samsung QN92D displayed its incredible capabilities in terms of brightness. The graphs clearly indicate that the television can achieve an impressive 2000 nits, giving it a solid power base to compete with the best models on the market. Such a result places it at the forefront, especially in the context of displaying HDR content, where brightness plays a crucial role. However, what happens when we transfer the tests to real film scenes? Under favourable conditions, such as the first scene from the film Life of Pi or the last scene where the image is entirely flooded with light, Samsung QN92D can achieve nearly laboratory results, impressing with its brightness. The situation looks different, however, when small, bright objects appear on a dark background, as in the fourth scene from the film Sicario. In such cases, the television does not perform as well – brightness drops several times, and the maximum values under the best conditions are around 600 NITS. Similar to the case with contrast, these limitations arise from the use of an aggressive local dimming algorithm. This algorithm aims to reduce the 'halo' effect around bright objects on a dark background, but often at the expense of overall brightness. As a result, while the television excels in brightly lit scenes, its ability to display full brightness is limited when it comes to small, vivid elements.

The best factory mode we measured was 'Filmmaker'. Despite this, its characteristics left a wide scope for comment. Let us take a look at the gamma chart, which is responsible for the depth and contrast of the image. First, we will pay attention to the orange line running through the middle of the chart, starting at point 2.4. This is the reference value of the REC.709 standard. Now, let us look at the measured value, which is marked by a white, connected multi-point. Such a significant drop in gamma to a value of 2.0 indicates a considerable decrease in contrast, resulting in an image lacking proper depth, and one could observe the so-called 'milk' effect. The next thing we tested was the white balance. Though unassuming, if poorly configured, it can alter the entire character of the image. At the beginning, the chart was progressing quite well, but as we went further, it began to be dominated by two colours: red and blue. Due to the current state of affairs, all the materials we used for testing had an unpleasant tint in those colours. However, thanks to rich calibration tools, such as an advanced colour management system (CMS) and 2- and 20-point grey scale adjustment, we were able to significantly improve the display's performance in SDR materials, as evidenced by low deltaE errors and very well-rendered gamma and white balance.

The best mode that consistently reproduces colours on the Samsung QN92D is, as it has been for years, the Filmmaker mode. Although it generally offers decent colour quality, it is not without significant issues. Let’s start with the analysis of images in HD/SDR quality. The biggest challenge here is white balance – the graphs show considerable instability, with a pronounced red dominance, making the image too warm. This distortion causes shades to be unnaturally shifted towards warmer tones, which can negatively affect the perception of materials with natural colours. The contrast, based on the gamma graph, although not the worst, remains far from ideal, impacting the overall image quality, especially in darker scenes.

This problem persists with 4K materials, such as series or movies of higher quality. In this case, the white balance also proves faulty, with noticeable deficiencies in blue and red colour, leading to tonal shifts. Tests using the Colour Checker tool confirm these issues – all colours tend to shift towards yellow tones, further distorting the natural appearance of the image. Although the Filmmaker mode is one of the best available modes for watching cinematic content, it still requires improvements, especially concerning colour accuracy and white balance.

In SDR mode, after calibration, the television Hisense 100U7KQ looks excellent. There is nothing to fault in terms of colour reproduction - both pastel and strongly saturated hues are displayed according to the Rec. 709 standard. This ensures that the image looks natural and in line with the director's vision. As a result, viewers can enjoy an authentic visual experience, with colours and tonal subtleties faithfully rendered.

In HDR mode, however, there is a noticeable boost in bright tones. The television attempts to beautify the picture, which can lead to an artificial brightening. This phenomenon becomes even more evident in real scenes, where bright parts of the image may be excessively enhanced. Although the colours in HDR are generally good, they are intentionally boosted too much by the manufacturer, which can affect their naturalness.

This approach by the manufacturer to displaying images in HDR mode may not appeal to everyone, especially those who value authenticity and fidelity to original colours. However, for those who prefer more dynamic and vivid images, such an emphasis on bright tones can be an attractive solution, adding extra sparkle and impact to the scenes.

After calibration, the Filmmaker mode on the Samsung QN92D television shows significant improvement, particularly in terms of SDR content. The white balance has been greatly enhanced – the previous colour misalignment and dominance of red have been eliminated, resulting in a more natural colour reproduction. In terms of brightness, although the gamma chart did not require significant adjustments, it has been stabilised, which affects overall picture quality.

Regarding high-quality materials, the white balance has also improved in this case. However, it is important to note the contrast. The EOTF curve, which illustrates values in this area, initially seems correct. However, when we look at the details, the television struggles to maintain appropriate contrast in film materials. The EOTF curve reveals certain discrepancies, suggesting that despite advancements, there are still areas needing improvement in this aspect. The television still strives for excellence in contrast reproduction. One advantage of this television is colour saturation. Skin tones are rendered very well, and although some colours can be slightly oversaturated, the final effect looks truly appealing – the colours appear rich and vibrant.

Despite some shortcomings in contrast, after calibration, the Filmmaker mode on the Samsung QN92D offers excellent picture quality, with natural colour reproduction, making it a great choice for watching films.

Smoothness of tonal transitions

The tonal transitions on the tested television can be described in one word: perfect. Throughout the test sequence, where we played very dark gradients from the most difficult scenes known to us, there was no sign of any choppiness or separating layers. These impressive results testify to the high quality of the panel and the advanced image processing algorithms. Of course, the ideal experience is maintained as long as we watch the television straight on – at an angle, the dark shades can significantly stand out, which is discussed in detail in a dedicated paragraph. It is also worth noting that such a problem can be observed with lower quality materials, but this is not the fault of the television, rather the inferior quality of the source itself.

The fluidity of tonal transitions in the TV Samsung QN92D is excellent, making the image appear remarkably natural, without noticeable disturbances. In scenes with complex colour gradations, the TV performs superbly, ensuring smooth and uniform transitions. Competing OLED TVs in a similar price range can successfully take a cue from this, as the Samsung QN92D offers quality that places it on par with models equipped with QD-OLED matrices.

Although the television is equipped with a feature for reducing posterisation called "Smooth Gradation," we did not notice a significant effect of its operation. Materials subjected to heavy compression, such as YouTube videos, still exhibited choppy, distinct tonal transitions, which did not look particularly favourable. While this is due to the material itself rather than the television, it would be good if there were a feature to mask these problems, similar to those found in displays from competing brands.

The image scaling, which is crucial when playing lower resolution content, is rated as average. Details are not overly blurred, and the image is not "smudged"; however, there is visible jaggedness on the edges of objects, such as branches, and a halo effect around figures and text. Although the television performs quite well, there is still room for improvement, especially in the context of displaying lower quality materials.

Let’s check how the Samsung QN92D television performs with tonal transitions in very poor quality materials. The noise reduction feature demonstrates good effectiveness, improving the smoothness of tonal transitions even in challenging conditions. However, it should be noted that, as with other Samsung televisions, the effectiveness of this feature may lead to the removal of desirable elements, such as film grain, which can sometimes affect the authenticity of the image.

Regarding digital processing, the Samsung QN92D television also performs excellently. During testing, the image was presented very well, with the model shown in a natural and correct manner. Details such as branches in the background were reproduced with great precision, highlighting the television's ability to enhance the quality of low-resolution materials.

The television correctly accepts a 4K signal up to 144 Hz, allowing for very smooth images to be displayed in high resolution. When the resolution is limited to Full HD, the television is capable of handling even 240 Hz, but such a signal can only be obtained from a PC. Unfortunately, the use of this feature is limited by several factors.

First of all, the Full HD resolution on a large television screen may seem insufficient, which affects image quality. Furthermore, the response time of the panel in this model is not short enough to fully utilise the refresh rate of 240 Hz. As a result, at such a high refresh rate, significant overdrive occurs, causing noticeable smearing and so-called "ghosting" behind moving objects.

It is also worth noting the motion smoothing function in the television, which operates up to 120 Hz. This is especially useful when watching sports and films, where smooth motion is crucial. The television provides stable operation of this function, minimising the amount of generated artifacts. Motion smoothness can be adjusted using two sliders – one for film smoothness and the other for reducing smearing in sports content.

In summary, although the television Hisense U7KQ offers impressive capabilities in terms of image refresh rates, limitations related to the response time of the panel and appropriate resolution may impact the actual benefits of these features. Nevertheless, the motion smoothing function works very well, improving the experience of watching dynamic content.

The Samsung QN92D television is equipped with a 144 Hz panel; however, when watching content using the smoothness feature, the maximum refresh rate is 120 Hz. This means that both gamers and those who watch a lot of sports will be satisfied with the picture quality. It is also worth mentioning the available image enhancement options, such as the "blur and judder reduction" feature, which allows users to adjust the smoothness to individual preferences on a 10-point scale. Blur reduction is responsible for increasing the sharpness of quickly moving objects, while judder reduction smooths motion, eliminating the "stutter" effect. Thanks to these advanced settings, optimal visual experiences can be achieved, making the Samsung QN92D ideal for both dynamic scenes and intense gaming sessions.

In terms of motion blur, the television performs really well, and it is hard to find anything to criticise. The only comment we might have is a slight overshoot effect noticeable on dark backgrounds during our test with "Ufoludkiem". Nevertheless, with the advanced smoothness settings, the Samsung QN92D is perfect for both dynamic scenes and intense gaming sessions.

These features include, among others, support for high refresh rates, low input lag, and a game bar. Generally speaking, most of these features work correctly, providing a satisfying gaming experience.

However, the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) technology does not function optimally. When VRR is activated, the television disables the local dimming feature, which significantly reduces image quality. In VRR mode, there is a lack of good contrast and high brightness in HDR mode, resulting in unsatisfactory image quality. In practice, this means that the VRR mode may be rarely used by gamers due to these limitations.

Additionally, the television does not support the HGIG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) mode, which is designed to optimise HDR image quality in games. The absence of this mode leads to issues with double tone mapping – once in the television and once in the console. As a result, the quality of HDR games is lower, which may affect the overall gaming experience.

In summary, although the Hisense U7KQ offers many features for gamers, certain key aspects, such as the optimal functioning of VRR and support for HGIG, may not meet the expectations of more demanding users. Nonetheless, the television still provides good support for most standard gaming features, making it a suitable choice for a wide range of gamers.

The Samsung QN92/QN90 television is an excellent choice for avid gamers, worthy of the highest recommendations. This model offers virtually all the features available on the market in terms of gaming, making gameplay even more exciting. One of its key features is the 120 Hz panel, which provides exceptional motion smoothness, vital during dynamic action games. The television also has low input lag, ensuring lightning-fast responses to player commands. Additionally, technologies such as VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) adjust the refresh rate and automatically switch the television to game mode, enhancing the gaming experience even further. An additional advantage is the Xbox app, which allows playing favourite titles directly on the television, eliminating the need for a console. This is a typical feature of Samsung televisions, which makes them unique in the gaming world.

Auto Motion Plus Game is a feature that truly deserves praise for Samsung. It is a motion smoother that performs excellently in games, allowing for the perception of a higher frame rate – a 30 frames per second image looks like 45, and 60 Hz becomes close to 90 Hz. Importantly, this feature does not introduce significant lag (input lag does not exceed 25 ms), so it does not negatively affect gaming comfort, unlike many other motion smoothers available on the market. As a result, players can enjoy a significantly smoother image without compromising on responsiveness.

Such a result is excellent and ensures that even the most demanding gamers will not experience any lags during gameplay. As a result, this television deserves the highest rating in terms of gaming performance.

The input lag category is crucial for gamers, and the Samsung QN90D performs exceptionally well in this aspect. Input lag values below 13 ms are impressive, which means that the delay between pressing a button on the controller and the response on the screen is minimal. Such a low value allows for smooth and responsive gaming experiences, which is sure to please both casual gamers and professionals for whom every millisecond of reaction time counts. Additionally, the Hisense U7KQ boasts very low input lag in PC mode, meaning minimal delays between actions performed on the computer and the image displayed. This is crucial for gamers who need quick screen response to gain an advantage in fast-paced games. Low input lag ensures that every action is instantly reflected on the screen, enhancing the overall user experience.

Despite using a BGR pixel layout instead of the more traditional RGB layout, the readability of fonts on the screen is at a good level. BGR (Blue-Green-Red) is a configuration where subpixels are arranged in a different order than in standard RGB. This can sometimes affect text quality, depending on the operating system settings.

In summary, the Hisense U7KQ is a good choice for PC users, offering support for chroma 4:4:4, low input lag, and good text readability, making it a versatile device for both work and entertainment.

On the test pattern, the letters on the right appear more like vertical lines, which can be frustrating for some users. Nevertheless, the television generally works well with computers, providing comfort in performing daily tasks. It is also worth mentioning in this paragraph the "Remote PC" feature; thanks to Microsoft's collaboration with the Korean giant, we can pair Windows PCs seamlessly and use Office 360 applications.

The screen features a VA matrix, which unfortunately has its limitations regarding viewing angles. Unlike some competing models, Hisense U7KQ does not have any coatings that improve this aspect, meaning that the image quality significantly decreases when viewed from an angle.

With a minimal deviation from the central axis, it becomes apparent that the image contrast starts to deteriorate. Details in the dark parts of the image become excessively pronounced, and colour saturation decreases. These effects are typical for VA matrices and in practice, this means that the best viewing experience can only be achieved when sitting directly in front of the screen.

For users who plan to watch television from different spots in the room, this can be a significant limitation. Reduced image quality at an angle may impact overall satisfaction with use, especially when watching films or programmes with a larger group.

In the case of TVs with VA panels, one can usually expect limited viewing angles; however, Samsung QN90D surprises in this category. Thanks to the applied coating that widens the viewing angles, the television offers truly good performance, which is rarely seen in devices with this type of panel. Although VA panels are not usually the best in this regard, in this model the picture remains clear and vibrant even when viewed from the side, making it an excellent choice for larger rooms and group viewing.

Hisense U7KQ does not have the best anti-reflective properties, as its panel is equipped with a satin finish that is not as effective in reducing glare as the matte coatings used in some other televisions, nor does it maintain as deep a black as glossy panels. It is somewhere between these two effects. Light reflections may be visible, particularly in brightly lit rooms, which can affect viewing comfort.

However, the high peak brightness values that this model achieves effectively compensate for these limitations. Thanks to this brightness, the image remains well visible even in sunny rooms. This makes the television perform quite well in challenging lighting conditions, where other models might struggle to provide adequate image quality.

The television performs excellently in bright rooms due to its high brightness, especially when watching standard television. A constant brightness level of 600 nits ensures excellent visibility even in intense daylight. Unfortunately, despite the use of a satin finish, handling reflections is average, which may affect viewing comfort. An additional downside is the matrix that improves viewing angles, which causes reflections of sunlight to spread vertically, potentially further reducing viewing comfort in a bright environment.

Although it does not offer as much expansion and the number of applications as the popular Android TV, it has its advantages. The VIDAA system operates quickly and stably, meaning that users do not have to worry about glitches or long loading times for applications.

Nevertheless, VIDAA does have certain limitations. There are quite a few applications available, but unfortunately, there is a lack of music apps such as Spotify or Tidal. Nevertheless, VIDAA supports most standard features that may be needed, such as screen mirroring, voice search in Polish, the ability to connect a keyboard and mouse, and Bluetooth headphones.

The television also supports many other features that are important to users, such as the ability to record programmes to USB and schedule recordings. However, it lacks more specific features like teletext or "Audio Only" mode, which allows users to listen to audio with the screen turned off.

In summary, the VIDAA system, although less well-known and having certain limitations compared to Android TV, offers stable and fast performance and supports most features that users may need. It is a solid solution for those looking for a simple and effective operating system in their television.

The Samsung QN92D television stands out with its modern Tizen operating system, which offers users an intuitive and visually pleasing environment. Tizen ensures smooth and quick browsing of applications, significantly enhancing the comfort of using the television. With its extensive ecosystem, users can easily connect the QN92D to other devices. The television supports numerous features that facilitate everyday use, such as controlling set-top boxes with the remote, eliminating the need for multiple remotes. Thanks to the AirPlay feature, Apple device users can seamlessly stream media from their iPhone. Additionally, there is a remote PC function that allows users to utilise their computer on a large screen, as well as the Office 365 application, making the QN92D an ideal solution for both work and entertainment.

Furthermore, like many Samsung televisions, the QN92D offers an Ambient Mode feature that allows users to customise the appearance of the television to blend with the surroundings. Users can display a variety of images or information, making the television an elegant part of interior decor even when not in use. Speaking of decor, it is certainly worth mentioning the device's appearance. It is truly very slim, around 2cm at its thickest point, which is impressive. The metal frame undoubtedly gives the impression of a premium device, and the stand included in the package is sturdy.

However, for those using traditional television, the QN92D may prove to be somewhat disappointing, as the Polish market lacks the feature for recording television programmes. Nevertheless, the television offers a PiP (Picture-in-Picture) function that allows simultaneous viewing of two programmes at the same time. The Samsung QN92D is a richly functional television that meets the needs of both gaming enthusiasts and multimedia users, while also aesthetically fitting into modern interiors.

It is worth noting some limitations regarding support for less popular codecs, such as AV1 and H266. Although these codecs are not yet widely used, their lack of support could pose a problem in the future as they become more common. However, for the time being, most users will not feel their absence.

Strange behaviour has been observed when playing photos – some files in certain resolutions may not load properly. This can be problematic for individuals who wish to browse their photographs directly from a USB drive. For this reason, viewing photos on this television may be limited, as some files may not load at all.

In summary, although the built-in media player of the Hisense U7KQ handles most standard video formats well, users may encounter certain limitations related to loading subtitles and photos in specific resolutions. Issues with support for less popular codecs are currently minimal but may become more significant in the future.

The built-in player in QN90D should satisfy a large portion of users. It will easily play most popular video and audio formats. However, more demanding users may notice some shortcomings – it is not possible to play photos in HEIC format, popular on Apple devices, as well as a few other, less widespread photo formats.

The Hisense U7KQ television offers satisfactory sound quality that is adequate for most everyday applications. The sound system of this model is characterised by good volume and clarity, making dialogues and sound effects clear. However, the television may not provide the full audio experience that can be obtained from dedicated audio systems or soundbars. One of the main audio advantages of the U7KQ is its ability to reproduce sound with minimal distortion at higher volume levels reaching up to 83dB, as well as support for Dolby Atmos and DTS.

The television is equipped similarly to the QN95 with a 4.2.2 speaker system with a total power of 70W (the exception here is the 50' variant with a 2.2 layout and the 43' with a 2.0 layout). Despite its very slim casing, the television delivers loud and clear sound, and the overall balance is good. We deducted points as standard, just like with any other Samsung model, for the lack of DTS format support. It is also worth mentioning the proprietary Q-Symphony feature, which allows synchronising the television sound with Samsung's soundbar.
