TCL is preparing a TV update: Android 14 and HDMI 2.1 QMS

Calendar 1/22/2026

TCL makes a significant step towards unifying its software ecosystem. The Chinese giant has prepared a firmware update marked v590, which for many users ends the experience with Android 12 and introduces the latest Android 14 system. Importantly, the update does not just refresh the interface but also implements new features.

What is HDMI QMS

The key element of the new software is support for HDMI 2.1 QMS. This solution addresses one of the most irritating problems of televisions – temporary screen blackout when matching the refresh rate to the material being played. Thanks to QMS, in collaboration with devices such as Apple TV 4K, the transition from the system's 60Hz to cinema's 24Hz occurs unnoticed by the viewer.

New Super Resolution Feature

Update v590 also introduces TCL's proprietary image processing solutions. The Super Resolution feature has been added to the picture settings menu. This is an intelligent upscaling designed to extract more details from lower quality films. Additionally, TCL has included new HDR conversion options, so the picture should be "richer and better suited to the capabilities of the panel." Of course, according to leaks and user experiences on AVForums, the new Android is expected to operate more smoothly, faster, and the television will have better-optimised energy-saving modes.

The update is intended for models with the MediaTek Pentonic 700 processor. This is the heart of most popular TCL models from the last two years. If you don’t see the update notification in the menu yet, don’t worry – the process is just starting now, and soon the "check for updates" feature should show a new version available for download.
