Samsung Electronics has officially partnered with Turkish Airlines to streamline one of the most problematic aspects of travel — finding lost luggage. From 1 December, passengers of the carrier can take advantage of the new Smart Tagged Baggage Service, based on the SmartThings Find platform. This is the first such partnership in the industry, and Samsung is clearly signalling that this is just the beginning.
How does the Smart Tagged Baggage Service work?
SmartThings Find uses BLE and UWB technologies, and its greatest strength is the network of over 700 million Galaxy devices acting as location "sensors". This means that luggage with an attached Galaxy SmartTag can be tracked almost anywhere in the world — quickly, accurately, and securely.
As part of its cooperation, Turkish Airlines will be able to more effectively locate lost luggage if the passenger includes a link with the SmartTag's location data in the report. This significantly shortens the process and makes the work of airport staff easier.
New Feature: Real Luggage Photo
The SmartThings Find app also introduces an important new feature: Change Device Image. It allows you to register a photo of your own suitcase, making its identification in the system—and later at the airport—much simpler. A small detail, but it really reduces the risk of mistakes and speeds up the process of finding luggage.
The start of a larger project
Turkish Airlines has become a launch partner, but Samsung is already announcing plans to expand the programme to other carriers. Moreover, the Turkish operator aims to utilise SmartThings Find in other passenger services, wherever accurate location can enhance comfort and efficiency. As Turkey's national carrier, the airline plans long-term collaboration with Samsung, based on solutions using artificial intelligence — both hardware and software.
Jaeyeon Jung, Vice President and Head of SmartThings at Samsung Electronics, emphasises:
“Samsung is enhancing SmartThings Find through cross-industry partnerships to give users more peace of mind, no matter where they are. We are excited to offer more convenient and intuitive journeys through our collaboration with Turkish Airlines.”
Kerem Kızıltunç, CIO of Turkish Airlines, adds:
“As an airline that prioritises digitalisation, we are proud to partner with Samsung. Their technologies will significantly enhance the passenger experience. This is just the beginning of a broader transformation that aims to set new standards in aviation.”
