Our verdict

QN80F is the first in the history of Samsung's "eighty range" to feature Mini LED backlighting. And it does it really well. Although the number of dimming zones isn't staggering, the black levels are solid, and in combination with high brightness, it allows for a very decent picture in HDR content. Additionally, there's a 144 Hz panel that provides excellent motion fluidity, and the gaming features – VRR, ALLM, Game Motion Plus – make the QN80F an option truly designed for those gaming on consoles or PCs. The television operates quickly and responsively, and the Tizen system runs like lightning – whether you’re searching for apps or switching sources. Is there anything to nitpick? Of course, as always – there are shortcomings in the system (like USB recording), DTS support is absent, and Mini LED comes with its own limitations. But the QN80F is a fantastic everyday television – versatile, refined, and... with great price potential. Looking at the history of this series, we can expect that this "eighty" will still shake things up once it hits the first reasonable promotions. And then it could be virtually unbeatable at its price – especially if Samsung fixes the minor teething issues.

LG OLED B6 is a very successful continuation of the B series and a TV that makes a lot of sense as a first step into OLED. It doesn’t try to compete with the most expensive models in every respect, but on the key points it still delivers exactly what many people choose this technology for: perfect black, very high contrast and a picture that can simply look spectacular in movies. Much of that is down to the new budget WOLED panel, the OLED SE. Thanks to it, LG’s cheapest OLED is noticeably brighter than a few years ago, and around 800 nits in HDR is a result you can genuinely see when watching. Bright highlights have more punch, the image copes better in demanding scenes, and combined with OLED black levels the overall look can be really impressive. Films and series from streaming platforms, especially those available in Dolby Vision, benefit in particular. That’s when the B6 makes the most of its strengths and can present a picture that will feel like a big step up for someone moving from a typical LCD TV. This is not a model without compromises. Our biggest concern is how the screen handles reflections. The lack of a classic polariser means the TV fares much worse when placed opposite a large window or a strong light source. Reflections are more noticeable than on other WOLED panels, and the black loses some of its character in a bright room. In controlled conditions that won’t be a problem, but for a very bright living room you should approach this purchase with a bit of caution. There’s also a slight disappointment with webOS. The system itself is still very good, with a rich app library, the convenient Magic Remote and basically everything you’d expect from a modern Smart TV. The problem is that on the B6 it doesn’t always run as smoothly as it should. At times you can feel the new version of the system is more demanding and a bit 'heavier' than before. Despite these remarks, the LG B6 still performs very well. It delivers all the main advantages of OLED while not costing as much as the higher series. It makes the most sense when it appears in a good deal, because then it can become one of the most interesting choices for people who want to step into the world of OLED without overpaying.

Check the visibility of bright lights on a dark background. Mini-LEDs often struggle with this. The photo does not compare black levels – that’s what the video below is for.

The video accurately shows differences in contrast and black levels between TVs, as well as potential issues: halo around bright objects or Mini-LED zone operation visible as brightness jumps.

QN80F is a representative of the Neo QLED series, meaning it is a television with Mini LED backlighting. Unlike its cheaper cousin, the QN70F model, the diodes here are placed directly behind the panel (instead of at the edges), which gives a solid advantage from the start when it comes to contrast control. In the 65-inch variant we tested, we counted 88 dimming zones – a result that may not be very impressive, but as it turned out, sufficient to achieve quite decent results.

In tests based on scenes from films such as Oblivion or The Meg, the QN80F performed well – blacks were deep, and the overall image consistency was eye-catching. However, in more demanding moments (e.g., scenes with a large number of bright details on a dark background), a halo effect appeared. This is where the limitation of the number of zones comes into play – bright elements could bleed around, and some details in dark areas became less visible. In one scene with a helicopter (The Meg), we even noticed slight brightness flickering, as if the television was trying its best to maintain visibility of the details at the expense of black depth.

However, these are not issues exclusive to this model – the halo effect or contrast drops in very complex scenes are something that most Mini LED televisions struggle with, even the more expensive ones. In its class, the QN80F still performs positively and offers noticeably better contrast than the QN70F model with edge lighting. For most users, this will be a level more than sufficient – although not perfect.

The blacks on the LG OLED B6 are perfect. It's no surprise, since it's an OLED (WOLED), but this is where you can really see why the technology still has so many fans. Each pixel can switch off individually, so in dark scenes there’s no grey glow or blooming around bright elements. That gives the picture excellent depth and can make it look truly three-dimensional. Shadow detail also holds up well. Nothing blends into a single dark blotch, and fine elements remain visible even in tougher scenes. In that respect the B6 simply delivers everything we love about OLED TVs.

QN80F is quite a bright screen – in synthetic tests, it reached nearly 1000 nits, which allows for reasonable expectations of HDR content. And indeed, in many scenes, the TV can truly shine. Sequences with a lot of light – like shots from the movie Life of Pi or wide, bright surfaces in The Meg – look impressive. Brightness stays around 700 nits, which provides a solid effect, enough to feel the true "HDR magic." Unfortunately, not every scene looks this good. In content with small, bright details on a dark background, like in Sicario 2, the TV can struggle – it can significantly dim individual elements, sometimes to the point where they disappear from the image. This is a result of the limited number of dimming zones, forcing the device into compromises: either stick to inky blacks or sacrifice some detail. QN80F usually chooses the former. As a consolation, it offers quite decent coverage of a wide color palette – DCI-P3 at 93%. It's not the highest score on the market, but it's more than enough for most content on streaming platforms.

LG B6 is a moderately bright OLED. After calibration it reaches around 800 nits, roughly 200 nits more than last year's B5. That's down to LG Display's new budget OLED SE panel. In practice this simply provides a bit more headroom and makes HDR look fuller in many scenes than on last year's lower-end OLEDs. That doesn't mean the B6 has no limitations. In very bright shots, when a large part of the screen is brightly lit, brightness can fall below 400 nits. This behaviour is typical of OLED TVs (especially in this segment), and it's then you see the biggest difference compared with pricier models. All the same, we rate the B6's results as really solid. It's still not a TV built to break brightness records, but the HDR effect is strong enough that films really feel like a step up from ordinary SDR picture.

Colour gamut

Using the OLED SE panel has had some impact on wide colour-gamut coverage. Compared with last year's model the figures have dropped by a few percentage points. DCI-P3 reaches about 96%, and BT.2020 around 71%. That doesn't mean the colours on the LG B6 are weak. In most films and TV series they look vivid, well saturated and simply pleasing to the eye. You only notice the difference in very bright, highly colourful scenes. Then colours lose some intensity compared with QD-OLED panels. This is due to the WOLED panel structure. In addition to the red, green and blue subpixels it also uses a white subpixel that helps boost brightness. This comes at a cost: at very high luminance some of the colour is effectively 'diluted' by the white light, so saturation of some hues can be slightly lower. Day-to-day it's not a big problem, but you can see it in the most demanding scenes.

We always test TVs in the best available factory mode – for the Samsung QN80F, this is the Filmmaker mode, and indeed, it provides the settings closest to the creators' intentions. However, this doesn’t mean everything looks perfect. In SDR content, the biggest issue was an unbalanced white balance – slight deficiencies in green and a noticeable excess of red led to noticeable colour errors, and one could say the screen had a pinkish hue. This was clearly visible in the colour checker test, where colours “escaped” outside their target fields – to such an extent that a sensitive viewer's eye could catch it even without the help of a meter.

In HDR content, the white balance was much better, but another issue arose – brightness management. The EOTF curve caused an overly bright image most of the time, which affected the perception of contrast and made the screen slightly “flicker” during dynamic changes in light. We’ve already discussed this in the paragraphs about black levels and HDR. Fortunately, Samsung offers users plenty of options. The QN80F features a rich set of calibration options, including a 20-point white balance – which is why we decided to check what this TV is really capable of after a proper calibration.

We tested the LG B6 in Filmmaker Mode, the best picture setting available straight out of the box. ISF modes give very similar results, but in our tests we always stick to Filmmaker Mode for better comparison with other TVs. Each of them is a far better starting point than Vivid or Eco, where the picture is heavily boosted and noticeably less natural. For SDR content the factory settings perform really well. Colour errors are small, gamma behaves correctly, and the picture looks natural during regular viewing and does not seem overly enhanced.

It's a bit worse with HDR. Once you start playing that kind of content it's quickly apparent the white balance isn't perfectly set. Too much blue and red makes the image take on a slightly pink tint. Colour gamut measurements and the ColorChecker confirm this, with samples clearly shifting in that direction. It's not a defect that completely ruins the picture, but you can notice it with HDR films. So anyone who wants the most faithful image should consider calibration, which we cover later in the review.

After conducting a thorough calibration, it was possible to bring most image parameters to a really good level. The white balance in both SDR and HDR presents itself almost perfectly – the image is natural, neutral, and free from the previously noticeable redness. Colours have gained depth, and the overall visual experience has become more pleasant and cohesive. It was also possible to partially manage brightness, which in the factory version could cause issues. The EOTF chart shows that the television performs much better with brightness after calibration – there is no longer excessive dimming of certain elements. In films, it can still be noticed that the QN80F has a tendency to slightly brighten the smallest bright details – this is already a consequence of the device's construction and the limited number of dimming zones. In short: not everything can be overcome, but what was possible has been improved. After calibration, the QN80F makes a really good impression, looking simply more mature and professional.

During calibration we focused mainly on HDR material, because that’s where the factory settings needed the most correction. We didn’t neglect SDR, though. After tuning it was brought almost to perfection. Colours are very accurate and brightness is controlled as it should be. The biggest change in HDR came from improving the white balance. After removing excess red and blue the pinkish tint disappeared and the image became much more natural. Skin tones, whites and all colours that had previously leaned towards pink improved. After calibration most errors fell below Delta E 2-3, the threshold at which an average viewer stops noticing differences with the naked eye. So the LG B6 can produce a very accurate picture, especially for the manufacturer’s entry-level OLED model.

In this regard, the QN80F really delivers. Transitions between colours are smooth, nothing tears, and there are no annoying bands in the sky or strange spots in the shadows. Movie scenes in darker tones performed particularly well – and that's where most televisions start to struggle. If you really focus, you might notice slight banding in the brightest areas, but that's really stretching it. In everyday viewing, no one should have a problem with this. To put it simply: the tonal transitions are so good that you can forget about them – and just enjoy the movie.

Tonal transitions in the LG B6 are quite good, though some limitations typical of WOLED panels are still apparent. In most scenes colours shift between shades smoothly, without obvious banding or unwanted digital artefacts. It is not always perfect, however. The most problems occur in the darker areas of the image, where WOLED panels have for years tended to perform a little worse. This is partly due to the greater difficulty of driving the panel at very low brightness and to the specifics of a design that uses a white subpixel. Compared with last year’s model there is a slight improvement, but it still is not at the level of the best QD-OLED TVs or more advanced LCD models.

If you notice strange colour transitions or unwanted artefacts while watching lower quality materials – for example from YouTube – it's worth checking the settings and enabling the noise reduction feature. In our opinion, the best setting is at the 'medium' level – it effectively smooths out problematic colour transitions without overly blurring the entire image. However, it's important to know one thing: this option tends to remove film grain. If someone values preserving that effect (e.g., in older films), it's better to simply turn it off – regardless of the level, the grain always disappears.

Regarding resolution scaling (also known as upscaling), Samsung – as usual – performs very well in this area. The QN80F doesn't quite match the top models costing tens of thousands, but for its price class, it performs impressively. Materials of very poor quality (e.g., from SD television or older video files) are noticeably improved and look surprisingly decent. The only noticeable downside is the typical Samsung issue with overscan – which is a slight cropping of the image edges at very low resolutions, such as 576p.

LG B6 copes very well with lower-quality material. Much of that is down to effective digital image processing, which can mask some source imperfections without excessively smoothing the whole scene. The "Smooth Gradation" feature proves particularly useful. It lets you noticeably reduce posterization mentioned earlier, especially in dark parts of the image. The safest choice is to set it to Low or Medium. The feature still effectively smooths out harsh tonal transitions, but doesn't yet interfere too much with fine details. Die-hard purists can of course leave it off. Upscaling to 4K also performs very well. Full HD and 720p content retain a fair amount of detail, and the image is neither overly sharpened nor heavily blurred. Some limitations are only noticeable with very poor sources below 720p, where the smallest text and fine elements aren't always perfectly sharp, but this is true for almost every other TV on the market.

QN80F is truly a “fast” TV. The panel used offers a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz, which in practice means that the screen keeps up with the action – whether we’re watching a movie, playing games, or browsing dynamic content online. The image doesn’t stutter, isn’t overly blurred, and everything simply looks smooth and pleasing to the eye. Of course, the manufacturer hasn’t forgotten about cinema fans – in the settings, we find an option to adjust motion smoothness, allowing us to tailor the effect to our own preferences. You can leave a more “frame-y” look (for those who enjoy the classic film vibe) or crank up the smoothness to a higher level to achieve a theatrical smoothing effect. Importantly, the choice is ours. Watching movies and playing on the QN80F is just plain fun.

One of the biggest advantages of OLED panels is their very fast pixel response time. That keeps the picture sharp and prevents visible smearing that often appears on LCD TVs. It does have a downside, though. During slow camera pans motion can look a bit choppier than on LCD screens, where the slower panel naturally masks some of that effect. Fortunately, on the LG B6 this is easy to tame with TruMotion. With the motion smoothing set correctly you can get smoother motion without giving the picture an exaggerated soap-opera effect.

Samsung QN80F is a television that delivers on almost every front when it comes to gaming. It features a 144 Hz panel, four fully-fledged HDMI 2.1 ports, support for gamers with variable refresh rate (VRR), automatic game mode (ALLM), and even one of the best-designed gamebars on the market. The icing on the cake is the motion smoother which – uniquely in the world – works in games without significantly increasing input lag. Sounds like an almost perfect gaming TV? And indeed, it is almost that.

[UPDATE] We have updated our Samsung TV tests from the 2025 model year due to the release of firmware version 1131, which restored the crucial gaming feature HGiG.

As usual, Samsung doesn’t support Dolby Vision in games, but that’s no longer surprising. However, what is much more surprising is that... the HGIG feature has disappeared – meaning the system that allows the console (e.g., PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X) to accurately match HDR tone mapping to the capabilities of the television. In the latest firmware update for the 2025 models, this option simply vanished. It looks more like a bug than a deliberate move, but it must be honestly noted that at the time of writing the review, the HGIG feature is simply absent.

And it’s precisely because of this one absence that the QN80F goes from being an almost perfect gaming television to a “nearly” perfect device. What a shame – because everything else indicated that Samsung could once again set the bar very high in this generation.

LG OLED B6 has plenty going for gamers; it's a complete base for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S or a solid PC. It comes with four full-size HDMI 2.1 ports with 48 Gb/s bandwidth, so you can forget about annoying cable swapping when you want to connect several newer devices at once. We get a full package of sync technologies, from classic VRR to G-Sync and FreeSync. The panel effortlessly syncs its refresh rate to the frame pacing produced by your console or graphics card. Of course ALLM is present: the B6 automatically recognises when a game is running and immediately cuts latency to a minimum. HDR support is also excellent. The TV supports Dolby Vision, and a correctly implemented HGiG means that after an initial calibration in the console settings the picture won't suffer from blown-out whites or lost detail in bright areas. The icing on the cake is the Game Bar. Instead of digging through the full menu mid-game, a single click lets you correct shadow visibility, tweak chosen parameters or simply check the display's current mode. All of this makes the LG B6 a great choice for gamers.

The QN80F doesn't disappoint when it comes to response time. The input lag for 120 Hz content drops below 10 ms, which can be considered an almost perfect result – it's hard to expect more in this class of televisions. Gaming is smooth, responsive, and without delays that could annoy even the most sensitive players. For 60 Hz material, the lag is higher, around 19 ms, but this is a completely natural phenomenon and still falls within comfortable limits.

Input lag on the LG B6 is very low. At 120 Hz it's about 5 ms, and at 60 Hz it rises to roughly 15 ms. Both results are good enough that most gamers won't notice any delay between their inputs and what happens on screen. Dolby Vision performs a bit worse, with input lag sometimes increasing to around 25 ms. It's still not a bad result, but the most demanding gamers using an Xbox may already notice a difference compared with regular HDR.

Playing on the QN80F with a computer connected is pure delight. The television works seamlessly with NVIDIA graphics cards (thanks to G-Sync support) and AMD (thanks to FreeSync Premium), and the 144 Hz refresh rate only enhances comfort during fast-paced gaming. Everything works right away, without unnecessary fiddling with settings – just as it should.

When it comes to work, it's very good as well. The readability of fonts is high, and texts look sharp and clear. With very thin horizontal lines, you might notice slight imperfections or shadows, but honestly – you have to take a good look. Unless, like us, you sometimes like to examine the screen with a magnifying glass… then you might spot something 😉.

The LG B6 also works very well as a computer display. Low input lag, support for VRR, G-Sync and FreeSync, and a high refresh rate mean there’s little to criticise when it comes to gaming. Compared with pricier models it only lacks extra modes with even higher refresh rates. In the best OLEDs and some LCD TVs you can now find 240 or even 330 Hz at lower resolutions. The B6 doesn’t offer that, but for most people it won’t be a major loss.

A more important consideration may be the WOLED panel’s subpixel structure. Because it uses four subpixels, small text in Windows isn’t perfectly crisp and you can sometimes see slight coloured fringing. For occasional web browsing or general computer work this is unlikely to be a problem. However, if someone plans to buy a smaller variant — for example a 48-inch model — and use it as their main monitor on the desk, they should bear that in mind.

QN80F, like most TVs with a VA panel, isn't impressive in terms of viewing angles. Just tilt a bit to the side, and you'll notice a significant drop in brightness and lost colour saturation. The image loses its "depth" and "vividness", and darker scenes may appear slightly washed out. However, this is a typical characteristic of VA panels, which offer significantly better native contrast compared to IPS panels in return. In short: you win some, you lose some. If you're sitting directly in front of the screen – there won't be any issues. But when watching together in a larger group, it's worth keeping this in mind.

Viewing angles on the LG B6 are very good, which is typical for almost all OLED TVs. Even when watching from well off to the side, the image retains high colour saturation and doesn't noticeably lose brightness. In that respect, only models with QD-OLED panels really perform better. There is, however, one thing worth mentioning. Some WOLED panels can show a slight greenish tint at steep viewing angles. It's not a rule; some units show this effect more, others hardly at all. It comes down to the individual unit.

QN80F is really a bright television. The average brightness in SDR material is around 550 nits, regardless of the scene, which practically means that you can comfortably watch content even in a well-lit room – and there’s no need to close the blinds every time we turn on a film. The new satin coating on the panel also deserves praise, as it handles glare much better compared to last year's QN80D. Reflections are less bothersome, and the screen maintains readability in various lighting conditions. It’s hard to nitpick here – the QN80F performs simply brilliantly during the day.

With the LG B6, one of the bigger changes comes from the new OLED SE panel. The TV is slightly brighter than its predecessor, but at the same time handles direct reflections worse. The reason is a less effective polariser, so reflections from windows or lamps are less suppressed and blacks in a bright room can look slightly lifted. LG tried to partly mask this effect with a satin screen coating. It does help to gently diffuse reflections, but it doesn't eliminate them as effectively as solutions used previously. And in that respect the B series loses the most compared with the previous generation. During the day the screen no longer looks as clean, and strong light sources can clearly reflect off the panel.

That doesn't mean, of course, that the B6 isn't suitable for a bright living room. The higher screen brightness helps cut through ambient light and during normal viewing the picture remains easy to see. The problem starts when there's a large window or a strong lamp opposite the TV. In those conditions the B6 doesn't cope well. It's therefore best used in a room where you can at least partially control the light falling directly on the screen.

SmartTV QN80F: Tizen

When it comes to smart features, the QN80F has nothing to be ashamed of. On the contrary – Tizen is one of the richest operating systems in terms of functionality. We have voice search, AirPlay support, Miracast and all the major streaming platforms at our fingertips. But Samsung's real advantage reveals itself in the smart home – SmartThings. Not only can you sync light bulbs and vacuum robots, but you can also integrate devices from other manufacturers, thanks to support for the Matter standard. And suddenly it turns out that the QN80F can serve as a home command centre. There is just one "but" – Tizen is a closed system, so we might not find a few lesser-known apps. However, in practice, it still has everything that 99% of users need.

Classic TV features:

When it comes to classic features, it’s just as good – well, almost. The QN80F supports Picture-in-Picture, a rare but still useful PiP feature. We'll easily find EPG, the good old teletext (yes, it works!) and the ability to connect external devices via Bluetooth – whether it's headphones or a soundbar. Unfortunately, it lacks the option to record to USB from the built-in tuners. This is a small annoyance, especially since competitors in a similar price range are increasingly offering this feature. It may not be a must-have function, but since everything else works so well, it’s a shame it's missing that finishing touch.

SmartTV: webOS

LG B6 uses webOS, LG’s proprietary platform. Its biggest advantage remains the control method. The included Magic Remote works like a mouse. Just move your wrist to move the cursor across the screen and point at items that interest you. At first it may seem unusual, but it quickly proves very convenient, especially when entering text, selecting apps or navigating a complex menu. The remote itself is quite minimalist and doesn't offer many traditional buttons, but the cursor control largely makes up for that. On the other hand, if you don't want to wave your hand to enter letters, you can simply speak the desired phrase to the remote and the AI voice assistant will provide suitable recommendations.

In terms of available apps, it's hard to fault webOS. You'll find practically all the major streaming services here, as well as extras such as AirPlay, screen mirroring and Chromecast. The TV therefore works well with both Apple phones and Android devices. It's just a pity the system doesn't run on the B6 as smoothly as on higher-tier models. At times it can respond with a slight delay, and the home screen is overloaded with recommendations, tiles and ads. That doesn't make webOS unusable, but it could certainly be more organised.

Classic features

The classic TV features, which many manufacturers are slowly beginning to forget, perform very well. The LG B6 allows, among other things, recording programmes to a connected drive or USB stick. The PVR function also works with a scheduler, so a recording can be planned in advance from the TV guide. This is handy when you want to save an episode, a match or another event broadcast while you're away. There's also a clear channel guide and smooth support for terrestrial, cable and satellite TV. For those who still regularly watch traditional television, the B6 is therefore a relatively complete device, as long as the absence of teletext isn't an issue.

The built-in media player in the QN80F handles most popular video formats – from classic MP4 to more demanding containers. It may not be as versatile as VLC, but for home use, it’s more than sufficient. The situation is worse with photos – here, unfortunately, it’s quite limited. Support mainly includes the JPG format, but hey, at least that’s the most important one 👌. During our tests, there was also a minor issue with subtitles. The QN80F only handled the simple text format .txt – unfortunately, other, more advanced formats (like .srt or .sub) were not recognized.

The LG B6’s built-in player handles most common video files played from USB without any major problems. The TV also correctly supports subtitles and the usual audio formats, although it lacks DTS support. Photo handling is a bit worse. The list of supported formats is fairly limited and does not include HEIC, the format in which photos taken on an iPhone are stored by default. Those files therefore need to be converted to JPG beforehand or you can simply use the AirPlay feature.

For a TV of this class, the QN80F sounds surprisingly good. It supports the Dolby Atmos format, which is worth noting as this is still not obvious in many models in this range. Unlike the thinner QN70F, here you can even feel a slight bass – all thanks to the thicker casing, which simply provides more space for the sound to "breathe". It's perfectly adequate for everyday viewing and series, and with the right settings, you could even consider listening to music without the need to connect external equipment. But – as is the case with Samsung, there is unfortunately a lack of support for the DTS:X format, so if we are using audio devices that support this format, we will first need to connect them to the amplifier and only then to the TV.

In terms of sound the LG B6 performs very similarly to last year’s model. It still has a 2.0-channel, 20 W system that is more than enough for everyday viewing. Dialogue is clear and the audio isn’t bad, but there’s none of the soundstage, dynamics or bass you get from higher-end models. The TV supports the Dolby Atmos spatial audio format, but DTS:X is missing. The biggest issue, however, isn’t the speakers themselves but the settings. Compared with its predecessor many of the options that let you tailor the sound to your preferences have gone. A few preset modes remain, including AI and Standard, but customisation options are much more limited than they were a year ago.
