Our verdict

Philips OLED950 is undoubtedly a technological showcase that redefines many aspects of what we can expect from a home entertainment centre. The use of the groundbreaking Tandem OLED panel brings us to the absolute peak in terms of image quality. The combination of infinite black and perfect contrast with brightness that can exceed the magical barrier of 2000 nits in HDR mode produces effects that are, at times, breathtaking. Whether we’re watching movies in a sunlit lounge or gaming at night with the support of a four-sided Ambilight system, the experience is simply phenomenal. It’s a complete screen that will satisfy both the cinema enthusiast seeking fidelity in Dolby Vision, and the gamer demanding 144 Hz and perfect motion response.

However, this awe for the raw performance of the panel is mixed with a sense of inadequacy when we consider the manufacturer's promises regarding image processing. Philips has heavily promoted the use of the "dual" P5 processor, suggesting that it would be a remedy for all the woes of digital signal processing. However, reality proved to be less revolutionary. In our tests, the difference compared to models equipped with the standard, single P5 chip was nearly imperceptible in everyday use. Issues with the smoothness of tonal transitions and posterization in difficult scenes, although rare, still occur. Considering the astronomical price of this model, we expected a significantly greater qualitative leap in this aspect that would justify such high positioning of the equipment. The question of value for money becomes the biggest problem for this otherwise outstanding television. When we look at the market with a cool eye, the situation for the 950 model becomes complicated. It’s not just about the strong competition from cheaper flagships like the LG G5 or Samsung S95F, but also about the "fratricidal" battle within Philips' own offerings. It turns out that the lower positioned OLED910 model offers us practically the same, brilliant image generated by the identical panel. Moreover, the 910 model outshines in audio, offering an integrated soundbar from Bowers & Wilkins, which is simply missing in the more expensive 950 model due to a different design. We are thus faced with a paradox: we get the same image and inferior sound, but we have to pay significantly more. Therefore, although the OLED950 is a fantastic screen, in 2025 the title of "Best Philips Television" and our recommendation goes to the model OLED910.

LG OLED B6 is a very successful continuation of the B series and a TV that makes a lot of sense as a first step into OLED. It doesn’t try to compete with the most expensive models in every respect, but on the key points it still delivers exactly what many people choose this technology for: perfect black, very high contrast and a picture that can simply look spectacular in movies. Much of that is down to the new budget WOLED panel, the OLED SE. Thanks to it, LG’s cheapest OLED is noticeably brighter than a few years ago, and around 800 nits in HDR is a result you can genuinely see when watching. Bright highlights have more punch, the image copes better in demanding scenes, and combined with OLED black levels the overall look can be really impressive. Films and series from streaming platforms, especially those available in Dolby Vision, benefit in particular. That’s when the B6 makes the most of its strengths and can present a picture that will feel like a big step up for someone moving from a typical LCD TV. This is not a model without compromises. Our biggest concern is how the screen handles reflections. The lack of a classic polariser means the TV fares much worse when placed opposite a large window or a strong light source. Reflections are more noticeable than on other WOLED panels, and the black loses some of its character in a bright room. In controlled conditions that won’t be a problem, but for a very bright living room you should approach this purchase with a bit of caution. There’s also a slight disappointment with webOS. The system itself is still very good, with a rich app library, the convenient Magic Remote and basically everything you’d expect from a modern Smart TV. The problem is that on the B6 it doesn’t always run as smoothly as it should. At times you can feel the new version of the system is more demanding and a bit 'heavier' than before. Despite these remarks, the LG B6 still performs very well. It delivers all the main advantages of OLED while not costing as much as the higher series. It makes the most sense when it appears in a good deal, because then it can become one of the most interesting choices for people who want to step into the world of OLED without overpaying.

There’s no need to elaborate here. Like every OLED TV, the Philips OLED950 has perfect black levels and contrast. Regardless of the film scene being watched, whether it's night shots or materials in a 2.39:1 aspect ratio with black bars, you can count on flawless black without any blooming or brightening. This is one of the biggest advantages of OLED technology over LCD and Mini-LED TVs. There are no local dimming algorithm games or compromises here. Black always remains black. The only thing that can be noticed in our tests is the scene with the helicopter from Sicario 2. The OLED950 quite clearly accentuates details in the shadows. However, this is a feature of our test unit, more related to the character of the image reproduction than the quality of black itself. In this regard, everything here is at the highest level.

The blacks on the LG OLED B6 are perfect. It's no surprise, since it's an OLED (WOLED), but this is where you can really see why the technology still has so many fans. Each pixel can switch off individually, so in dark scenes there’s no grey glow or blooming around bright elements. That gives the picture excellent depth and can make it look truly three-dimensional. Shadow detail also holds up well. Nothing blends into a single dark blotch, and fine elements remain visible even in tougher scenes. In that respect the B6 simply delivers everything we love about OLED TVs.

OLED950 is a phenomenal TV for consuming content in HDR format, primarily thanks to the use of innovative Tandem OLED technology. With this technology, the screen can generate astronomical brightness levels, reaching over 2000 nits in movie scenes (on test patterns). This is an outstanding result that places the OLED950 model among the elite displays available on the market. However, it is worth noting a specific aspect of this solution – at moments when full-screen flashes of light appear, brightness can drop by as much as half. Nonetheless, it is important to highlight that levels above 1000 nits on a full screen are still an outstanding result. This allows HDR content to be displayed exactly as filmmakers intended, maintaining the dynamics and impact of bright scenes.

The use of Tandem OLED technology also brought tangible benefits in terms of colour reproduction, improving elements that traditional WOLED panels had issues with compared to QD-OLED competition. In the case of the OLED950, the colour gamut coverage is wider than in classic WOLED panels, reaching nearly 100% of the DCI-P3 colour space and a solid 82% of the demanding BT.2020 palette. While these results still do not match the highly refined achievements of QD-OLED panels, the difference becomes less noticeable during real-world use. We cannot deny that in the vast majority of films, colours look simply fantastic on this model – they are saturated, vibrant, and full of depth.

LG B6 is a moderately bright OLED. After calibration it reaches around 800 nits, roughly 200 nits more than last year's B5. That's down to LG Display's new budget OLED SE panel. In practice this simply provides a bit more headroom and makes HDR look fuller in many scenes than on last year's lower-end OLEDs. That doesn't mean the B6 has no limitations. In very bright shots, when a large part of the screen is brightly lit, brightness can fall below 400 nits. This behaviour is typical of OLED TVs (especially in this segment), and it's then you see the biggest difference compared with pricier models. All the same, we rate the B6's results as really solid. It's still not a TV built to break brightness records, but the HDR effect is strong enough that films really feel like a step up from ordinary SDR picture.

Colour gamut

Using the OLED SE panel has had some impact on wide colour-gamut coverage. Compared with last year's model the figures have dropped by a few percentage points. DCI-P3 reaches about 96%, and BT.2020 around 71%. That doesn't mean the colours on the LG B6 are weak. In most films and TV series they look vivid, well saturated and simply pleasing to the eye. You only notice the difference in very bright, highly colourful scenes. Then colours lose some intensity compared with QD-OLED panels. This is due to the WOLED panel structure. In addition to the red, green and blue subpixels it also uses a white subpixel that helps boost brightness. This comes at a cost: at very high luminance some of the colour is effectively 'diluted' by the white light, so saturation of some hues can be slightly lower. Day-to-day it's not a big problem, but you can see it in the most demanding scenes.

We tested the OLED950 model in Film mode. Although it is intended to be the best and most accurate preset on this television, in practice, it proved to be not without flaws. Interestingly, in the specimen we tested, the biggest challenge was not the white balance itself – although it did show a slight tendency to give the image a pinkish tint. The main issue lay in the way the television managed brightness, both in everyday SDR content and in demanding HDR scenes. Analysis of the gamma chart and the EOTF curve leads to one key conclusion: the television excessively exposes brightness in the lower registers. This results in the image appearing less contrasty than what the panel technology allows. Details in dark areas, which should remain perfectly dimmed (the characteristic "OLED black"), are simply unnecessarily highlighted and brightened. Fortunately, these errors can be corrected using the appropriate tools, so – as always – we proceeded with professional calibration.

We tested the LG B6 in Filmmaker Mode, the best picture setting available straight out of the box. ISF modes give very similar results, but in our tests we always stick to Filmmaker Mode for better comparison with other TVs. Each of them is a far better starting point than Vivid or Eco, where the picture is heavily boosted and noticeably less natural. For SDR content the factory settings perform really well. Colour errors are small, gamma behaves correctly, and the picture looks natural during regular viewing and does not seem overly enhanced.

It's a bit worse with HDR. Once you start playing that kind of content it's quickly apparent the white balance isn't perfectly set. Too much blue and red makes the image take on a slightly pink tint. Colour gamut measurements and the ColorChecker confirm this, with samples clearly shifting in that direction. It's not a defect that completely ruins the picture, but you can notice it with HDR films. So anyone who wants the most faithful image should consider calibration, which we cover later in the review.

As you can see, the OLED950, after a professional calibration process, becomes an absolutely phenomenal display that, without a shadow of a doubt, can be placed alongside the best televisions currently available in the world. This equipment needed only a professional touch to showcase its full potential and eliminate factory shortcomings. The residual errors in the Color Checker tests and the fidelity of the colour palette speak for themselves. We are dealing with an almost perfect device here. A true window to the world, offering image quality of the highest order.

During calibration we focused mainly on HDR material, because that’s where the factory settings needed the most correction. We didn’t neglect SDR, though. After tuning it was brought almost to perfection. Colours are very accurate and brightness is controlled as it should be. The biggest change in HDR came from improving the white balance. After removing excess red and blue the pinkish tint disappeared and the image became much more natural. Skin tones, whites and all colours that had previously leaned towards pink improved. After calibration most errors fell below Delta E 2-3, the threshold at which an average viewer stops noticing differences with the naked eye. So the LG B6 can produce a very accurate picture, especially for the manufacturer’s entry-level OLED model.

If we had to point out the weaker point of the OLED950 model compared to market competitors like the G5 and S95F, it would be – as with most TVs from this manufacturer – the digital signal processing. Although the processor used here is referred to as a "dual" one, our tests in practice did not show significant changes compared to the lower positioned OLED910 model. The differences are actually minimal, which only reflected in a slight cosmetic increase in rating in this category. In very demanding, especially dark scenes, one can still occasionally notice issues with slight posterization. However, it should be clearly stated that this is a "flaw" that the average viewer will very rarely notice during normal usage, and the overall reception remains at a high level.

Tonal transitions in the LG B6 are quite good, though some limitations typical of WOLED panels are still apparent. In most scenes colours shift between shades smoothly, without obvious banding or unwanted digital artefacts. It is not always perfect, however. The most problems occur in the darker areas of the image, where WOLED panels have for years tended to perform a little worse. This is partly due to the greater difficulty of driving the panel at very low brightness and to the specifics of a design that uses a white subpixel. Compared with last year’s model there is a slight improvement, but it still is not at the level of the best QD-OLED TVs or more advanced LCD models.

In terms of the scaling of the image, the proprietary P5 processor performs just as well as in most of the manufacturer's models. Lower resolution content gains a very soft and plastic character. This presentation will certainly appeal to many people. However, if you prefer sharper contours, you can gently enhance them using the appropriate slider in the TV menu. In this aspect, it's really hard to nitpick. The image simply looks very good and additionally, there are no issues with overscan.

Smoothing and Distortion Reduction

The smoothing of tonal transitions performs somewhat worse. In the settings, we find an option called "Distortion Reduction." This allows for a three-level adjustment of the processor's intervention. Unfortunately, the Minimum setting works poorly and the smoothing effects are minimal. The Medium level gives a decent result, but it also begins to smooth out the details of the actors' skin. On the other hand, the Maximum setting works too aggressively. It removes far too many details from the face and background elements or can even eliminate film grain. To achieve the optimal effect, it's worth playing around with these settings at home and adjusting them to your liking. It might seem that the Medium option represents the best compromise here.

LG B6 copes very well with lower-quality material. Much of that is down to effective digital image processing, which can mask some source imperfections without excessively smoothing the whole scene. The "Smooth Gradation" feature proves particularly useful. It lets you noticeably reduce posterization mentioned earlier, especially in dark parts of the image. The safest choice is to set it to Low or Medium. The feature still effectively smooths out harsh tonal transitions, but doesn't yet interfere too much with fine details. Die-hard purists can of course leave it off. Upscaling to 4K also performs very well. Full HD and 720p content retain a fair amount of detail, and the image is neither overly sharpened nor heavily blurred. Some limitations are only noticeable with very poor sources below 720p, where the smallest text and fine elements aren't always perfectly sharp, but this is true for almost every other TV on the market.

The motion reproduction on the OLED950 model is simply perfect. This is typical for screens of this kind (OLED 120Hz+), as the panel shows no motion blur at all. This allows us to enjoy perfect sharpness in practically any conditions. A significant part of this is due not only to the nature of organic technology itself. Equally important work is done here by the smoothing systems employed by the manufacturer.

One of the biggest advantages of OLED panels is their very fast pixel response time. That keeps the picture sharp and prevents visible smearing that often appears on LCD TVs. It does have a downside, though. During slow camera pans motion can look a bit choppier than on LCD screens, where the slower panel naturally masks some of that effect. Fortunately, on the LG B6 this is easy to tame with TruMotion. With the motion smoothing set correctly you can get smoother motion without giving the picture an exaggerated soap-opera effect.

OLED950 is almost the perfect television for gamers. This is due not only to the unique atmosphere created by the Ambilight system during gameplay. The most important aspect here is the solid hardware support. We literally have everything you would expect from a modern gaming display. The manufacturer has implemented two HDMI 2.1 ports with full bandwidth of 48 Gb/s. This gives us access to gaming in 4K resolution at 120 frames per second. There is, of course, support for VRR technology and the automatic game mode ALLM. The device handles any HDR signal with ease, whether we’re using Dolby Vision or the HGiG standard.

We have access to all settings from one place thanks to the special Game Bar overlay. While this interface may not be the most graphically attractive on the market, it fully accomplishes its task. It displays all the important signal parameters and offers useful additions. Gamers can take advantage of the minimap zoom function or add a fixed crosshair on the screen, which can be seen as a small aid in online competition. The adjustment of contrast range also proves to be useful. It allows you to brighten shadows and achieve better visibility of enemies hiding in dark corners of the map.

LG OLED B6 has plenty going for gamers; it's a complete base for the PS5, Xbox Series X/S or a solid PC. It comes with four full-size HDMI 2.1 ports with 48 Gb/s bandwidth, so you can forget about annoying cable swapping when you want to connect several newer devices at once. We get a full package of sync technologies, from classic VRR to G-Sync and FreeSync. The panel effortlessly syncs its refresh rate to the frame pacing produced by your console or graphics card. Of course ALLM is present: the B6 automatically recognises when a game is running and immediately cuts latency to a minimum. HDR support is also excellent. The TV supports Dolby Vision, and a correctly implemented HGiG means that after an initial calibration in the console settings the picture won't suffer from blown-out whites or lost detail in bright areas. The icing on the cake is the Game Bar. Instead of digging through the full menu mid-game, a single click lets you correct shadow visibility, tweak chosen parameters or simply check the display's current mode. All of this makes the LG B6 a great choice for gamers.

According to what we have come to expect from TVs in this segment, the signal delay in this model is practically negligible. Our measurements indicated nearly reference values: just 5 ms at 120 Hz refresh rate and 12 ms for the 60 Hz signal. This means an instantaneous response to every command issued via the controller, mouse, or keyboard. With such low results, the only limitation during dynamic online gameplay remains your own reflexes and lack of "skill," rather than the hardware. 😉

Input lag on the LG B6 is very low. At 120 Hz it's about 5 ms, and at 60 Hz it rises to roughly 15 ms. Both results are good enough that most gamers won't notice any delay between their inputs and what happens on screen. Dolby Vision performs a bit worse, with input lag sometimes increasing to around 25 ms. It's still not a bad result, but the most demanding gamers using an Xbox may already notice a difference compared with regular HDR.

In this category, the situation looks quite specific. If we look at the OLED950 through the eyes of a gamer, we get a phenomenal display. It performs excellently not only with consoles but also when connected to a powerful computer. We have access here to an additional 144 Hz mode, full support for G-Sync and FreeSync technology, and very low signal latency. One could risk saying that for PC gamers, this is an almost ideal monitor.

However, problems arise when we examine the readability of fonts. We are not only referring to the unusual subpixel arrangement of the WOLED panels (BWRG), which causes specific edge discoloration of text in all televisions of this type. The tested model struggles with correctly displaying Chroma 4:4:4 sampling. This is mainly noticeable when we display coloured text on another colourful background. The letters then gain strange shading, unnatural contours, and unwanted artifacts. It’s a bit of a shame, although we must honestly admit that this is a very specific flaw. For 99% of you, no one is likely to notice this during normal entertainment. However, if you belong to that 1% of people planning to purchase the OLED950 strictly as a monitor for office work, you may feel disappointed.

The LG B6 also works very well as a computer display. Low input lag, support for VRR, G-Sync and FreeSync, and a high refresh rate mean there’s little to criticise when it comes to gaming. Compared with pricier models it only lacks extra modes with even higher refresh rates. In the best OLEDs and some LCD TVs you can now find 240 or even 330 Hz at lower resolutions. The B6 doesn’t offer that, but for most people it won’t be a major loss.

A more important consideration may be the WOLED panel’s subpixel structure. Because it uses four subpixels, small text in Windows isn’t perfectly crisp and you can sometimes see slight coloured fringing. For occasional web browsing or general computer work this is unlikely to be a problem. However, if someone plans to buy a smaller variant — for example a 48-inch model — and use it as their main monitor on the desk, they should bear that in mind.

As befits organic technology, the viewing angles here are practically very good. We can enjoy a great image no matter where on the couch we look at the screen. The only caveat arises when directly comparing the Tandem OLED matrix used here with the competitors' solutions. Compared to last year's LG panels equipped with the MLA filter or the best QD-OLED screens from Samsung, the angles in the OLED950 are slightly weaker. They are not quite as perfect as those of the mentioned rivals. Nevertheless, they generally still maintain a very high level, and in everyday use, it’s hard to consider this a downside.

Viewing angles on the LG B6 are very good, which is typical for almost all OLED TVs. Even when watching from well off to the side, the image retains high colour saturation and doesn't noticeably lose brightness. In that respect, only models with QD-OLED panels really perform better. There is, however, one thing worth mentioning. Some WOLED panels can show a slight greenish tint at steep viewing angles. It's not a rule; some units show this effect more, others hardly at all. It comes down to the individual unit.

The OLED950 model performs exceptionally well in really bright rooms without any concerns. A key advantage here is the previously mentioned very high brightness of the panel. Considering it's OLED technology, the performance is impressive. One could confidently say that in this regard, this television can compete with mid-range Mini-LED models. In the world of organic panels, this is not such a given, which is a significant plus for the device being tested.

However, there is one drawback that could be termed as its Achilles' heel. Similar to most Tandem OLED panels, the manufacturer has applied a glossy screen coating here. Unfortunately, it doesn't handle direct light reflections very well. It's worth bearing this in mind when planning the placement of the television in relation to windows, as reflections may be noticeable.

With the LG B6, one of the bigger changes comes from the new OLED SE panel. The TV is slightly brighter than its predecessor, but at the same time handles direct reflections worse. The reason is a less effective polariser, so reflections from windows or lamps are less suppressed and blacks in a bright room can look slightly lifted. LG tried to partly mask this effect with a satin screen coating. It does help to gently diffuse reflections, but it doesn't eliminate them as effectively as solutions used previously. And in that respect the B series loses the most compared with the previous generation. During the day the screen no longer looks as clean, and strong light sources can clearly reflect off the panel.

That doesn't mean, of course, that the B6 isn't suitable for a bright living room. The higher screen brightness helps cut through ambient light and during normal viewing the picture remains easy to see. The problem starts when there's a large window or a strong lamp opposite the TV. In those conditions the B6 doesn't cope well. It's therefore best used in a room where you can at least partially control the light falling directly on the screen.

Smart Features

The biggest plus of the OLED950 is the Google TV system — the manufacturer is increasingly moving away from it in cheaper models in favour of TitanOS, but here we thankfully still have a fully-fledged Android-based environment. This means access to a vast library of apps, a voice assistant, and convenient features like Chromecast. For unknown reasons, we were once again unable to activate Windows Miracast in the editorial office, despite the manufacturer declaring this option is available. On the plus side: Apple device users can sleep easy, as the TV supports AirPlay.

Classic Features

In terms of “classics,” the TV offers a rather basic set: teletext and Bluetooth connectivity. The biggest complaints revolve around the remote. On one hand, it is sensibly designed with backlighting, “hybrid” switching between typical functions and the numeric keypad, and charging via USB-C. On the other hand, enthusiasm quickly wanes when it turns out that you need to aim it at the screen, as it operates on infrared.

SmartTV: webOS

LG B6 uses webOS, LG’s proprietary platform. Its biggest advantage remains the control method. The included Magic Remote works like a mouse. Just move your wrist to move the cursor across the screen and point at items that interest you. At first it may seem unusual, but it quickly proves very convenient, especially when entering text, selecting apps or navigating a complex menu. The remote itself is quite minimalist and doesn't offer many traditional buttons, but the cursor control largely makes up for that. On the other hand, if you don't want to wave your hand to enter letters, you can simply speak the desired phrase to the remote and the AI voice assistant will provide suitable recommendations.

In terms of available apps, it's hard to fault webOS. You'll find practically all the major streaming services here, as well as extras such as AirPlay, screen mirroring and Chromecast. The TV therefore works well with both Apple phones and Android devices. It's just a pity the system doesn't run on the B6 as smoothly as on higher-tier models. At times it can respond with a slight delay, and the home screen is overloaded with recommendations, tiles and ads. That doesn't make webOS unusable, but it could certainly be more organised.

Classic features

The classic TV features, which many manufacturers are slowly beginning to forget, perform very well. The LG B6 allows, among other things, recording programmes to a connected drive or USB stick. The PVR function also works with a scheduler, so a recording can be planned in advance from the TV guide. This is handy when you want to save an episode, a match or another event broadcast while you're away. There's also a clear channel guide and smooth support for terrestrial, cable and satellite TV. For those who still regularly watch traditional television, the B6 is therefore a relatively complete device, as long as the absence of teletext isn't an issue.

The built-in media player in the OLED950 model works exceptionally well. During our tests, the device handled practically every format we threw at it. Whether they were video files, audio tracks, or photos, the TV played them without any issues. It's hard to find any weaknesses in its support for the most popular standards. However, if someone still finds something lacking (which seems unlikely), the operating system comes to the rescue. Thanks to the presence of Google TV, we are not solely reliant on the default solutions. At any time, you can enter the app store and install an external player, such as the popular VLC or Kodi. This ensures that the TV can handle literally any file from our home library.

The LG B6’s built-in player handles most common video files played from USB without any major problems. The TV also correctly supports subtitles and the usual audio formats, although it lacks DTS support. Photo handling is a bit worse. The list of supported formats is fairly limited and does not include HEIC, the format in which photos taken on an iPhone are stored by default. Those files therefore need to be converted to JPG beforehand or you can simply use the AirPlay feature.

The speaker setup here is a 2.1 system with a total power of 70 W, which offers a solid dose of quality sound. It plays clearly, and thanks to the additional subwoofer at the back of the enclosure, the sound is deep and has a distinct punch. This element is often lacking in cheaper models, where the bass is practically non-existent. However, we must face the truth when comparing it to the OLED910 model. That television, equipped with a built-in Bowers & Wilkins soundbar, simply performs much better. Was it a good decision? In our opinion, the outstanding audio of the 910 model provides greater value. Choosing the 950 model makes sense mainly if you are big fans of Ambilight, and you’ve got the sound issue sorted out with an external home theatre or soundbar.

In terms of sound the LG B6 performs very similarly to last year’s model. It still has a 2.0-channel, 20 W system that is more than enough for everyday viewing. Dialogue is clear and the audio isn’t bad, but there’s none of the soundstage, dynamics or bass you get from higher-end models. The TV supports the Dolby Atmos spatial audio format, but DTS:X is missing. The biggest issue, however, isn’t the speakers themselves but the settings. Compared with its predecessor many of the options that let you tailor the sound to your preferences have gone. A few preset modes remain, including AI and Standard, but customisation options are much more limited than they were a year ago.
