Our verdict

Philips MLED920 is a natural continuation of last year’s PML9000 model, but it’s not a rehash. It’s clear that the manufacturer has done their homework – primarily, the local dimming algorithms have been improved, which last year could really spoil the viewing experience. Now, black levels and contrast are definitely better, and combined with Dolby Vision here, even HDR content looks quite decent. The picture can sometimes shine where it should, and it doesn’t strain the eyes in more challenging scenes. Undoubtedly, the greatest asset of the MLED920 is its unique Ambilight system. The three-sided backlighting can give films and games a whole new atmosphere – it’s as if the screen is extending beyond its boundaries, and the whole room becomes part of the viewing experience. This is something that will be appreciated not only by movie buffs but also by gamers, who, in addition to the lights, get a full set of features typical of modern gaming TVs: 144 Hz, VRR, ALLM, and Dolby Vision Gaming. In this regard, Philips has a lot to offer. But. Well, there’s a big but – this is where we reach the most difficult part of this verdict – it’s still a dual-purpose device. On one hand, we have strong picture quality and the unique Ambilight feature, on the other, there are hardware limitations that are hard to ignore. Titan OS in its current form is a big hindrance, full of bugs and shortcomings that make the TV lag behind the competition. Added to this is the price, which is by no means low for the features offered. Therefore, it’s hard to recommend it unequivocally to everyone. However, if you’re looking for Philips' brightest screen at a reasonable price, with Ambilight, a full set of features for gamers, and basic apps – the MLED920 will be quite a good choice.

The LG C6 is a very successful evolution of one of the market’s most popular OLEDs. The TV itself hasn’t changed drastically compared with last year’s C5; the look is very similar, webOS offers comparable features, and gamers again get pretty much everything you’d expect from a modern TV. You can’t really complain, since the C5 was already a very complete device in that respect. The most important change is where there was room for improvement: the panel itself. The new WOLED panel is noticeably brighter, and roughly 1500 nits in HDR makes it increasingly hard to see the C6 as just a ‘mid-range’ OLED. HDR movies look very impressive, blacks remain perfect, colours are very good, and the new processor, the same one found in the flagship G6, handles upscaling and lower-quality sources very well. There’s also a really strong offering for gamers. 165 Hz from a PC, VRR, G-Sync and very low input lag mean you can just as easily hook up a console as a powerful PC. During the day the C6 also performs better than previous generations, though of course in a very bright living room you’ll still find brighter TVs on the market. And it’s probably that versatility we like most about the C series. The C6 doesn’t try to be the best TV in every possible category, but it doesn’t really fall short in any. It’s suitable for movies, sport, gaming, regular TV and everyday streaming. If its price starts to fall after launch as it did with previous generations, it could be one of the most interesting OLEDs to buy in 2026.

The video accurately shows differences in contrast and black levels between TVs, as well as potential issues: halo around bright objects or Mini-LED zone operation visible as brightness jumps.

Philips MLED920 in the 55-inch version that we had the opportunity to test uses a high-contrast VA panel. The panel itself is one thing, but the real standout feature of this model is the mini-LED backlighting. This largely determines how black and contrast look – and it must be said that Philips has taken a big step forward compared to the models from 2024, where the local dimming algorithms performed just average. In this new version, it is significantly better, and the contrast presented by the MLED920 can truly surprise in a positive way. At times, it even approaches the level known from the best LCD TVs on the market – blacks can be deep, the image gains a three-dimensional quality, and viewing experiences in a dark room leave a great impression. Of course, as with any mini-LED TV, this is not an image completely free of compromises. With a large number of small elements on the screen, the local dimming algorithms can sometimes get confused – at times dimming details more than we would like and other times brightening the background, resulting in slight, light blue halos around objects (the so-called halo effect). Despite these imperfections, we must emphasize that black and contrast are truly strengths of the Philips MLED920 and definitely one of the reasons to consider it in the mid-range segment.

If it’s about black levels, there’s not much to discuss. The LG C6 uses an OLED panel, so each pixel can be completely turned off. The result is what you’d expect: perfect black, very high contrast and no haloing around bright elements. You can see this clearly in night scenes, where single lamps, text or other bright points appear against a very dark background. The C6 handles them without any trouble and there are none of the limitations typical of Mini LED TVs with local dimming. Interestingly, in this respect it doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about this C6 or the more expensive Tandem OLED variant. When it comes to black levels themselves, both TVs perform practically identically. The differences between them are mainly in brightness and colours.

NOTE: In the helicopter scene from Sicario 2 we noticed graininess and flickering in the darkest parts of the image. It looks like a software bug that LG should fix with an update. On the Tandem OLED version the issue is even more noticeable, and we observed similar behaviour on the flagship LG G6.

Philips MLED920 in our measurements in static tests even reached around 900 nits, which for a mid-range model is quite an impressive result. In practice, this translates to a lot of satisfaction during viewing – in scenes rich in bright light, such as the first, third, or fifth test patterns, the screen was able to generate around 700 nits, which is sufficient to feel the real "HDR effect". However, it cannot be denied that the limited number of backlight zones and the typical mini-LED compromises in dimming algorithms reveal their flaws in more demanding scenes. In sequences with small light sources – like the moon or a scene from the film Sicario 2 – the television clearly prioritises maintaining deeper blacks at the expense of the brightness of these small elements. For most viewers, this is still a reasonable compromise, as the dark background looks much better, although it should be noted that the details themselves may not dazzle with intensity. The question of colours also leaves a bit to be desired. Although the employed PFS filter (the equivalent of quantum dots known from QLEDs) does its job and the colours appear quite vibrant, the coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space reaches "only" 90%. In everyday viewing, this will be sufficient, but in extremely colourful productions – like the latest Disney animations – one can notice that some tones are not as vivid as they could be in other constructions.

The HDR performance of the LG C6 is really very good. LG Display’s new WOLED panel has mainly brought a significant increase in brightness. In our unit we measured around 1500 nits and, importantly, the TV can show similar values in many normal movie scenes as well. That gives HDR real punch. Bright highlights, lamps and sunlight can be genuinely intense, and most HDR movies simply look very impressive. Of course it’s still an OLED, so brightness falls in scenes with a lot of white. The fifth scene from the movie The Meg illustrates this well, where the C6 reached around 600 to 700 nits. That’s still a very good result, but it also shows the new panel hasn’t shed all the limitations typical of OLEDs.

Colours

When it comes to colours, it’s also hard to raise major objections. The C6 covers about 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut and roughly 75% of BT.2020. In practice colours are very saturated and, importantly, stable regardless of the scene. That’s worth emphasising, because not every TV behaves the same in this respect. In some RGB Mini LED models colour saturation can depend more strongly on image brightness. A wider colour gamut today is mainly offered by QD-OLED TVs and new SQD models with a new generation of quantum dots. However, the C6 still performs very strongly here and is able to produce suitably saturated colours in most movie scenes.

Like every Philips TV we've tested, the MLED920 was primarily assessed in Filmmaker mode – the so-called "most honest" mode, designed for films and to faithfully convey the intentions of the creators. Indeed, in terms of colour accuracy, it performs best among all the modes available on the TV, but it is not without flaws. The first thing that stands out is the white balance. The image has a slight tendency towards purple-pink tones, giving it a somewhat unnatural character. However, an even bigger problem turned out to be what we mentioned earlier – image clipping. Just looking at the gamma or EOTF charts reveals that the line deviates significantly from the norm, dropping below a value of 1.8. In practice, this means "bleeding" of the brightest whites, where the image becomes almost milky. Fortunately, most of these issues can be corrected – the MLED920 responds to calibration, and with a few adjustments, image quality can be significantly improved.

Right out of the box the LG C6 is quite well set up, especially if you choose the Filmmaker mode. In SDR material the white balance is decent, although as brightness increases there is a slight lack of red. The image becomes a bit cooler, but not enough for it to be very noticeable during normal viewing. More is happening in the brightness characteristic. Gamma is a little low and instead of holding at 2.4, for a large part of the range it sits closer to 2.1–2.2. In practice the C6 slightly brightens midtones. Shadows are therefore more readable, but the image loses some depth compared with how it should look in a darkened room.

In HDR the situation is a bit more interesting. The start of the greyscale looks very good, but from about 20–30% brightness the white balance starts to drift increasingly. As brightness rises there is more red and a noticeable lack of blue. In the brightest sections the difference is already significant and also affects the reproduction of some colours. The EOTF curve itself is followed quite well through most of the range. The C6 only tends to slightly brighten the image, which we also saw in our film comparisons. The largest deviation appears around the brightest parts, where the TV starts adapting the signal to the panel's capabilities.

The factory Filmmaker setting in HDR is therefore not perfect, but overall performs well. The biggest area for improvement is the white balance, especially at high brightness.

After calibration, we managed to largely tame the white balance – to the extent that the average viewer will not be able to detect colour inaccuracies. The characteristic pink-purple glow that previously disrupted the naturalness of the image has also disappeared. The colour palette has been organised, and the colours appear more cohesive and neutral. The gamma in SDR content looks really good after calibration – there’s no sign of the earlier “bleeding” effect in bright scenes. The image has become more contrasty and free from the milky effect that previously severely affected the viewing experience. In the case of HDR content, the improvement is also noticeable, although here it is still evident that the television goes “its own way”. The EOTF curve cannot be fully adjusted, as Philips simply does not offer tools for precise control of this parameter in its settings. In many films, the television still exposes the image “in its own way”. Despite these limitations, calibration has brought a lot of good – the majority of colour inaccuracies have been minimised and the overall image balance has significantly improved. However, one must remember that certain barriers arise from the very hardware construction and simply cannot be overcome.

LG TVs have long responded very well to calibration, and the C6 is no exception. After adjustments we managed to set the white balance practically perfectly, and most colour errors fell below 3, often down to around 2. In practice this means very accurate colour reproduction in both SDR and HDR. An interesting detail only appeared with the HDR brightness response. On a classic EOTF chart everything looks almost perfect and at first glance it would be hard to find fault. Only when we measured the TV’s behaviour using filters based on real film scenes did it become clear that the C6 has a slight tendency to artificially boost image brightness.

It’s not a huge difference and many viewers may even see it as a positive, because HDR looks a bit more striking as a result. From the point of view of fidelity to the source material, however, it’s not ideal — some scenes are simply a touch brighter than the filmmaker intended. Interestingly, this is rather unusual for LG. In previous generations the brand’s TVs typically held very closely to the reference picture curve after calibration. The C6 is still very close to the standard, but that subtle brightness 'boost' can indeed be noticed in films and TV series.

The fluidity of tonal transitions in the Philips MLED920 is not its strongest suit. In our tests, we quickly noticed that the television has noticeable issues in darker scenes – examples include segments from the film The Green Knight or test grey palettes. There, you can see characteristic banding of colours and too harsh transitions between shades, which can be quite noticeable in productions with a darker aesthetic. Fortunately, the situation looks better in brighter scenes – there, the image presents smoothly and without significant artifacts.

LG C6 handles tonal transitions very well. In most film scenes it was hard to notice obvious posterization problems. Both in dark parts of the image and in bright gradations the colours remain relatively smooth and do not break up into visible bands. That's very good news, because WOLED panels have not always been perfect in this respect. In the C6 it's noticeably better and during normal viewing this aspect of the picture shouldn't draw attention to itself.

One drawback, however, is dithering visible in near-black areas. Up close you can notice slight flicker and graininess in the darkest parts of the image. It's not as pronounced as on the Tandem OLED panel version, but it still occurs, so in this category we decided to deduct a few points from the C6.

The manufacturer has equipped this model with several features that improve signal quality, and although we usually approach such “enhancers” with caution, here they prove to be really helpful. The key option is called “distortion reduction” – it works best at a medium level because, on one hand, it effectively smooths out unwanted steps and colour transitions, and on the other, it doesn’t excessively cut details, meaning the image still looks natural.

It’s a bit worse when it comes to upscaling. Lower quality materials – such as the test video with the model – appeared soft and lacking sharpness. Of course, it can be partially adjusted with the sharpness slider in the menu, but the result still falls short compared to what competitors offer at a similar price. Philips still needs to work on this aspect because, in light of the successful improvement of tonal transitions, the upscaling simply comes off weak.

Here the LG C6 has taken a really big step forward. The TV uses the same processor found in the flagship G6, and in terms of image processing the two models are very close. That's a big plus, because in this area LG's processor this year performs excellently. The "Smooth Gradation" function works particularly well. With heavily compressed material it can effectively hide ugly tonal banding and artefacts that often appear, for example, in lower-quality streaming. It's best to leave it on the "Low" setting. Then the improvement is clear, and the TV doesn't yet start blurring fine detail. Higher levels smooth the image more aggressively, but can already remove some of the natural texture of objects on screen. Upscaling itself also performs very well. Lower-resolution content is properly sharpened, edges look clean, and the processor quite effectively reconstructs fine details. In that respect the C6 is really close to LG's best TVs and the differences compared with the G6 are small.

Philips MLED920 features a 144 Hz panel, which immediately suggests that we shouldn’t complain about motion smoothness. And indeed – for a VA panel, the motion blur is relatively low here, and while you can sometimes notice slight issues on darker backgrounds, they’re not something that will catch the eye of most people during regular viewing.

A big plus is also the presence of a motion smoother called “Motion Style.” It allows you to adjust the smoothness to your own preferences – if someone prefers a more “theatrical,” almost television-like character of the image, they can increase the sliders, and if they want to maintain the natural “judders” of a cinematic frame, they just need to set lower values. This way, everyone can find a happy medium.

The LG C6 features a panel with a maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz, which is great news especially for gamers using a powerful PC. For movies, sport and consoles we’ll of course be limited to 120 Hz at most, but even then it’s hard to fault the motion clarity. As you’d expect from an OLED, the panel’s response time is near-instant. Moving objects therefore don’t leave the characteristic smearing you still see on LCD TVs. This is especially noticeable in sport and fast-paced games, where the picture remains very clean even during dynamic movement.

For movies and TV, LG has also included a motion smoothing system called TruMotion. In the user settings you’ll find two separate sliders. De-Judder is primarily for low-frame-rate material, namely movies and TV series at 24 fps. You can use it to slightly reduce the characteristic judder or increase it if you prefer a much smoother picture. De-Blur, on the other hand, is useful for higher-frame-rate content, mainly sports broadcasts and 50/60 fps TV.

For gamers, the Philips MLED920 is truly a complete tool. The manufacturer has taken care of everything that is now considered standard in televisions for consoles and PCs. It has ALLM, so the console automatically switches the screen to game mode, there’s VRR and a 144 Hz refresh rate that ensures smooth gameplay even in fast-paced titles. All key HDR formats are supported – including HGiG and Dolby Vision Gaming for Xbox – which means that regardless of what you’re playing and on which console, the television will be able to extract the maximum potential from the image. In everyday gaming, the Game Bar proves useful too – a relatively simple implementation by Philips, but a functional panel where you can quickly check image parameters, enable VRR, or adjust details without leaving the game. It’s not as elaborate as the competition, but it does its job without any complaints. And finally, something that sets Philips apart from the competition – Ambilight. The three-sided LED backlighting can make a huge impression in games, especially in the evening. It’s also a way to slightly 'expand' the screen and create a greater sense of immersion. And since coloured LEDs have recently become almost an essential element of a gamer’s room, the MLED920 fits perfectly into this trend.

LG has long focused heavily on gamers, and the C6 essentially lacks nothing important. The TV supports 4K at 120 Hz from consoles, and when connected to a PC it can even run at 165 Hz. On top of that there’s VRR from 40 to 165 Hz, ALLM and a properly functioning HGiG. Another big plus is support for Dolby Vision in games, so the Xbox Series X can use that format without giving up game mode. The package is rounded out by the Game Bar, which lets you quickly check key signal parameters and change settings without leaving your game. In terms of features alone, the C6 is one of those TVs it’s really hard to fault. Whether you play on PlayStation, Xbox or PC, practically everything you could expect from a modern gaming TV is available here.

The input lag on the Philips MLED920 is really very good – in 120 Hz mode, we measured values below 10 ms, which places this model among the absolute top of LCD TVs in terms of responsiveness. Even at 60 Hz, a result of around 18 ms is fully acceptable and won't interfere with any type of gameplay. One exception is the Dolby Vision mode at 60 frames, where the latency can increase to as much as 35 ms. This is a result that may be a bit glaring for esports players, but it must be stated honestly – for most so-called "casual gamers," it will be absolutely imperceptible. Especially since we're talking about values that still allow for comfortable gaming without major compromises.

In terms of input lag the C6 performs like a good gaming TV should. At 120 Hz we measured about 5 ms, so controller input is practically instantaneous. At 60 Hz the result increases to around 14 ms, but that's still a good figure. Latency is a bit higher in Dolby Vision. At 120 Hz it's about 14 ms, and at 60 Hz roughly 22 ms. In practice, during normal Xbox gameplay this isn't something that will really bother you.

The photo shows the legibility of small fonts. Ideally, lines should be the same thickness on both light and dark text, with minimal pixel gaps.

When it comes to working with a PC, the Philips MLED920 evokes quite mixed feelings. On one hand, it looks impressive on paper – we have 144 Hz, support for G-Sync and FreeSync, so in terms of gaming on PC, the TV does not disappoint. Anyone looking for a large screen for computer games gets a solid package of features here. However, when we try to use it as a typical monitor for everyday work, its limitations quickly become apparent. The fonts do not look the best – there is noticeable strong dithering, coloured letters can be jagged, and with very dark text, there are even strange anomalies, as if the panel is losing thin lines and having trouble reproducing them correctly. In short: For PC gaming, yes. For any work and reading text: a definite no.

The C6 also performs very well when connected to a computer. The TV correctly supports 4:4:4 chroma, so text, icons and other small UI elements are displayed clearly. You can therefore use it not only for gaming but also for regular work in Windows without much trouble. A limitation is the four‑subpixel panel layout. If you sit really close to the screen, you might notice slight coloured fringing on the edges of some fonts. It isn’t particularly bothersome and becomes practically invisible from a normal viewing distance.

The C6 also has a lot to offer PC gamers. From a PC you can use the full 165 Hz, and it also supports G-Sync, VRR and very low input lag, which is around 5 ms at the maximum refresh rate. Combined with the OLED’s lightning-fast response time, this delivers a very smooth, clean image with no visible motion blur. So if you plan to connect a powerful PC to the C6, the TV can comfortably serve as a large gaming monitor and will also work quite well for everyday productivity.

The viewing angles on the MLED920 are classic for VA type panels – even a slight tilt from the centre causes the image to start losing colours, contrast weakens, and the overall picture becomes quite flat and less appealing. There are no miracles here. So if you’re watching films with a larger group and everyone is sitting a bit to the side, this will be slightly noticeable. On the other hand, you get what you pay for: thanks to this panel, the MLED920 can display a much deeper black than TVs with IPS panels.

Viewing angles on the LG C6 are very good and actually rank among the best you can currently find in TVs. This is largely due to the OLED panel itself. Even if you sit well off to one side, the picture still retains good contrast and the colours don't lose much saturation. That makes the C6 very well suited to a larger living room, where not everyone sits directly in front of the screen. Only at very extreme angles can you notice slight colour shifts, but during normal viewing it's hard to count that as any real issue. In this respect, really only Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels perform better.

Philips MLED920 performs quite well in everyday use. The satin finish on the panel effectively reduces reflections, and in most moderately sunny living rooms, it manages unwanted glare quite well. However, it's important to remember that this is not a TV that dazzles with brightness – the average value in SDR hovers around 450 nits. In very bright rooms, particularly with large south-facing windows, the screen doesn't always stand up to the intense daylight. In such situations, it's worth supporting it with even light curtains, so viewing comfort doesn't suffer too much.

The LG C6 has a glossy panel that handles direct reflections quite well, but it doesn’t eliminate them completely. If there’s a large window or a bright lamp facing the TV, their reflections will still be visible. On the other hand, the screen preserves blacks well in a lit room and even during the day the picture doesn’t go grey or washed out. The C6 is also fairly bright in SDR. With typical content we measured around 470 nits, so in most living rooms it should cope during the day without much trouble. Brightness only starts to fall off more noticeably when a large part of the screen is white. That’s still a typical characteristic of OLEDs and it becomes noticeable with very bright content, for example winter sports. Overall, the C6 performs well in a normally lit living room. However, if the TV is going to sit opposite huge windows and spend most of the day fighting strong sunlight, a bright Mini LED will still be the better choice.

Smart TV – Titan OS

Philips MLED920 uses the proprietary Titan OS, which is just starting its adventure in the TV market and unfortunately, this is evident at every turn. On one hand, we have basic features – such as AirPlay support or the ability to mirror content from a smartphone, but on the other hand, its limitations quickly become apparent. Screen mirroring works only with a phone, but not with a laptop. Voice search? Yes, but it only works with Amazon Alexa and in languages supported by this assistant. The system operates fairly quickly, but every now and then it can "fail" and gives the impression of something that is underdeveloped and still evolving.

Classic TV Functions

Titan OS also doesn't excel in terms of classic TV functions. Aside from the hybrid remote with a numeric keypad – which is indeed backlit and thoughtfully designed in two modes, it unfortunately operates on infrared – there’s nothing here that would truly set the MLED920 apart from the competition. There’s a lack of USB recording or a PiP function, and such solutions could be useful in this class. From unusual additions, we have an analog output in the form of a jack, which allows for connecting headphones or older speakers. It’s a small nod to users who still use older equipment.

Ambilight TV

What definitely draws attention away from the shortcomings of Titan OS is the unique, three-sided Ambilight system. Here, Philips still plays in its own league and can impress those who haven't experienced this feature before. The colour backlighting that reacts to the content on the screen adds a unique atmosphere to viewing sessions and is something that the competition does not offer in a similar form. It is precisely Ambilight that is meant to ensure that other shortcomings – both system-related and functional – take a back seat.

Smart TV – webOS

Regardless of which C6 variant you come across, the set of features remains the same. The heart of the television is, of course, webOS, the system LG has been developing for many years. It runs quickly, is well optimised and, above all, provides access to practically all popular apps. Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, YouTube, Max and other streaming services — in this respect it is hard to find major gaps. The system itself also offers a lot of extra options. There is AirPlay, easy screen casting from a smartphone, control of smart home devices and the ability to personalise the home screen. LG has been significantly expanding webOS for several generations and at times the number of available tabs or recommendations can be a little overwhelming (especially with ads in the background), but once you get used to it the system is convenient and, most importantly, works smoothly.

Classic television features

The C6 also handles being used as a normal television very well, not just as a screen for Netflix. Terrestrial TV support, the programme guide and channel switching all work smoothly and there is little to complain about. LG still offers the ability to record programmes to USB, so in terms of traditional features the equipment is really comprehensive. In fact we only miss two things here. The first is PiP, the ability to display two video sources at the same time. The second is a backlight for the remote, which would be particularly useful for evening viewing. Apart from that, the C6 has pretty much everything you can expect from a modern television.

Magic Remote: DIFFERENT VERSIONS

When buying the C6 it is worth paying attention to the remote, because LG has caused a bit of confusion here. During our tests we had, among others, the C64 variant, commonly found in large retail chains. The set included the new, much smaller Magic Remote Slim. It has fewer buttons and looks decidedly more modern, but still retains two of LG remotes' most distinctive features: the scroll wheel and cursor control by moving the remote. The C6E we tested, on the other hand, was equipped with the older, larger version of the Magic Remote. It works essentially the same, but has a classic numeric keypad and many more physical buttons. It looks less modern, but some people — especially those used to traditional remotes — may find it more convenient. So there is no single answer as to which remote is better. The new one is smaller, simpler and decidedly more contemporary; the older one offers faster access to a larger number of functions without having to navigate through menus. It's worth knowing that depending on the C6 marking, you may find one or the other variant in the box.

The built-in player in the Philips MLED920 works quite well and handles most popular audio and video files without any major issues – just as you can see in our test table. So there’s no worry about typical movie or music formats. The only complaint we can have is regarding its rather selective support for photo formats and some resolutions.

During our tests the TV handled virtually all of the most popular video formats we copied onto a USB stick without any problems. There were no issues with high bitrates, subtitles or more demanding files, so it's hard to criticise it on that front. The only exception was material with a DTS audio track. That's not surprising, because the TV simply doesn't support that codec. Otherwise, the built-in player is good enough that most users will be fine without installing external apps or connecting an additional player.

The sound in the Philips MLED920 is probably not the element that will impress you the most. It sounds fairly flat, lacking depth and clearer bass, which means movies or concerts don't have that extra layer of immersion that a better audio system can provide. However, it must be said that the volume is at a really decent level – the TV can ramp up to even 88 decibels. A big plus of the MLED920 is not so much the sound quality itself, but the support for audio formats. Philips has ensured compatibility with virtually all the major standards, including Dolby Atmos, DTS, and Dolby TrueHD 7.1. This means that if someone decides to connect an external soundbar or amplifier, they won't encounter any limitations and will be able to enjoy the full cinema sound.

In terms of sound the C6 is practically unchanged from last year’s C5. It still uses a 2.2-channel setup with a total output of 40 W, so a somewhat more solid base than many TVs that rely on simple 2.0 20 W arrangements. In practice the sound is quite good. Dialogue is clear, it doesn’t sound overly flat, and the additional speakers deliver a bit more bass than many basic TVs. Of course it still won’t replace a good soundbar, let alone a home theatre, but it’s more than enough for everyday TV viewing.

There’s a small step backwards, however, in the settings. LG removed some of the preset sound modes this year, which makes it a bit harder to tailor the sound to your preferences than on the previous generation. For that reason our rating is slightly lower, although the speakers’ capabilities remain practically unchanged. On the plus side it supports Dolby Atmos, the most popular surround-sound format in films and streaming right now. DTS support is still missing, which may matter mainly to people using their own movie libraries on discs or files.
