The latest update for Windows 11 removes the technological barrier of 1000 Hz for display refresh rates. This change paves the way for the full utilisation of upcoming next-generation monitors that exceed the previous limits of fluidity offered by gaming panels.
Response to 1040 Hz Monitors
The introduced updates are a direct response to the dynamic development of hardware, which we could observe, among others, at the recent CES trade show. It was there that the first panels were presented, including designs from Samsung, offering a refresh rate of 1040 Hz. Until now, the Windows system has not been able to natively support such high values, which constituted a systemic limitation for the fastest matrices available on the market. The new builds numbered 26100.8106 and 26200.8106 (KB5079387) introduce necessary changes in the code, allowing for smooth rendering of images at record frequency.

Availability in the Release Preview Channel
New features have now been rolled out to the Release Preview channel for versions 24H2 and 25H2. This means that after the testing phase, the solution will be made available to all users of the stable releases of Windows 11 as part of the standard system update. Besides unlocking refresh rate limits, the update KB5079387 focuses on the stability of the system kernel in terms of collaboration with the most powerful graphic processors, preparing the ecosystem for upcoming hardware releases.
