WhatsApp introduces the "Writing Help" tool, which suggests how to write a message better – improving the tone, style, and clarity of the text, while also taking care of user privacy.
How does it work?
Just type your message and tap the pencil icon next to the text box. AI will suggest several versions – from professional to funny, supportive, or simply corrected for errors. You can choose a suggestion or stick with the original. Importantly, the recipient won't see that the text has been edited by artificial intelligence.
Privacy First
Meta boasts its own "Private Processing" technology. Content is encrypted, transmitted anonymously, and not stored on servers. The company emphasises that neither employees nor third parties have access to messages – and suggestions return without leaving a trace. The feature only works after being enabled in the settings.
For business and everyday conversations
WhatsApp is increasingly being used at work or to contact clients, particularly through WhatsApp Business. The new feature aims to help sound more professional, as well as assist in quickly correcting typos or grammar – which can be particularly useful when writing in a foreign language.
Availability
“Writing Help” is launching in English on Android and iOS in the USA and several other countries. Meta has announced plans to expand to more languages and regions later this year, though no release date has been provided for Polish, for example.
WhatsApp is thereby joining Telegram, Google, and Microsoft, which are also developing their own AI in messaging platforms. If the idea takes off globally – the way we write messages on a daily basis could change significantly.
