Hell has frozen over. Samsung Electronics has decided to purchase AMOLED screens from its Chinese competitor, TCL CSOT. According to the OLED-info website, the deal for 15 million panels has already been finalised. This means that upcoming bestsellers, such as the Galaxy A57 and new models of the Galaxy S FE, will for the first time in history not be exclusively using displays from the sister company Samsung Display.
Price Makes Miracles: 20% Cheaper than at Home
The main reason for this sensational decision is simple economic calculation. Prices of processors and RAM are skyrocketing, so Samsung had to look for savings elsewhere to avoid raising the prices of their phones. ChooseTV offered an irresistible deal. Their screens are 20% cheaper than those produced by Samsung Display. For the giant from Korea, this is pure business, allowing them to maintain margins on key models in the upper mid-range.
It’s worth adding that ChooseTV has already supplied panels for the budget M and A series, but models A5x and S FE have always been Korea's stronghold in the mobile offering. Breaking this monopoly shows that Chinese screens have already reached a quality that Samsung is not afraid to showcase in their most important smartphones.
Thinner bezels thanks to... the Chinese?
Switching to a new supplier also comes with a technological leap. In 2026, the Galaxy A57 and FE models are finally expected to receive flexible AMOLED panels instead of the current glass constructions. As a result, the phones will be lighter and the bezels around the screen significantly smaller. Since flexible displays are more expensive to produce, the choice of a cheaper supplier from China has allowed Samsung to make this upgrade without a drastic increase in the final price of the device.
For us, the users, this news has a bittersweet taste. On one hand, we can expect smartphones from the A57 and FE series without drastic price increases. On the other hand, a certain era is coming to an end, where purchasing a mid-range Samsung ensured that every component of its screen came from the same Korean family.
