Nvidia has expanded the availability of its cloud gaming service GeForce NOW to another popular browser. From now on, Firefox users on Windows can launch games directly via the service’s website. This is an important change, because until now official browser support included, among others, Google Chrome. Nvidia says Firefox has met the high performance and quality requirements for GeForce NOW.

GeForce NOW lands on Firefox five years after debut on Chrome

GeForce NOW has long allowed you to run demanding games on devices that don’t have sufficiently powerful hardware. Games are rendered on NVIDIA’s servers, and the video and audio are then streamed to the user over the internet. This means you don’t need a powerful computer to enjoy high graphics settings in supported titles. Until now, one of the most important browsers supporting the service was Google Chrome, which gained GeForce NOW support back in 2021. Now Firefox on Windows PCs joins it. NVIDIA emphasises that before adding browser support it set the bar very high, particularly when it comes to performance and the ability to play without extra software.

Using the service is very simple. The user needs to go to the GeForce NOW site, sign in to their account and select a supported game. You don't need to install a separate app, and according to NVIDIA, Firefox should work fine alongside other open browser tabs.

Firefox will let you stream games at up to 1440p and 120 frames per second

The new feature could be especially appealing to users who prefer using a browser rather than dedicated apps. Nvidia says GeForce NOW Premium subscribers can get up to 1440p and 120 frames per second in the browser. The final quality will, of course, depend on factors such as the speed and stability of your internet connection. Mozilla notes that integrating the service into Firefox required a tailored approach because of the browser's architecture. Firefox is developed with a strong emphasis on privacy and user control, while cloud gaming requires streaming large amounts of data while keeping latency as low as possible. Nvidia says that, working with Mozilla, they have met the requirements needed to launch the feature. Firefox support fits into Nvidia's broader strategy to steadily expand GeForce NOW to more devices. The service is already available on computers, TVs and other media devices. Cloud gaming is therefore becoming less dependent on specific hardware, and running demanding titles now only requires a compatible device and a good internet connection.

GeForce NOW has officially debuted in the Firefox on Windows browser, expanding the list of ways to use the service. Nvidia says users can expect high-quality streaming, and Premium subscribers can even get 1440p and 120 FPS. Importantly, no additional app is needed to start playing. All you need is a browser and access to the GeForce NOW website. It's another step by Nvidia towards making cloud gaming available on virtually any compatible device.
