BenQ introduces an alternative to the Apple Studio Display.

Calendar 3/8/2026

BenQ has announced the MA270S model, a 27-inch 5K monitor designed as a direct competitor to the Apple Studio Display. The device will debut in March 2026 at a price of $999, joining the limited range of 5K panels currently available from Apple, LG, and Samsung. The new model is positioned as a solution for Mac users who require full compatibility with the native macOS ecosystem.

5K LCD Screen with DCI-P3 Colours

The monitor is based on a 27-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 5120x2880 pixels, providing a density of 218 PPI – key for correctly scaling the Apple interface. The specifications include brightness of 500 nits, a contrast ratio of 2000:1, and 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Although BenQ claims support for HDR10 format, a standard IPS panel without local dimming is unlikely to deliver true HDR image quality. What a shame.

“Nano gloss” coating and integration with macOS

Instead of the typical matte finish found on PC monitors, BenQ has applied a glossy “nano gloss” coating. It aims to imitate the clarity and depth of image known from Apple displays, which is rare among third-party manufacturers. With the “Display Pilot 2” feature, the monitor integrates with the operating system, allowing brightness and built-in speaker volume adjustments directly from the Mac keyboard. This eliminates the need to use the physical OSD menu.

Thunderbolt 4 and Multitasking Connectivity

In terms of connectors, the MA270S offers two Thunderbolt 4 ports (including one with 96W power and daisy-chaining capability), HDMI ports, and USB-C. The device has a built-in Smart KVM switch, making it easier to work on two computers simultaneously, as well as a Picture-by-Picture function. The whole setup is mounted on a fully adjustable base that stylistically echoes Apple’s minimalist design.

The BenQ MA270S can now be purchased for around 999 dollars on Amazon.
