Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft shows major improvements

Ubisoft has revealed new details about Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, and it seems that the developers have heavily rebuilt the foundations of gameplay. The changes include combat, parkour, and stealth, with the aim of creating a more dynamic and modern experience while retaining the atmosphere of the original Black Flag. The most attention-grabbing feature is the new enemy system, which is designed to respond to the player's style and compel a more creative approach to confrontations.

Smarter opponents and more demanding combat

The new “Adaptive Enemies” system makes opponents learn the player's behaviour during combat. If someone overuses the same moves, like parries or kicks, the enemies will start to adapt to this by using unblockable attacks or avoiding repeated combinations. This aims to make combat less formulaic and more engaging than in the original. Ubisoft wants players to regularly change their fighting style, utilise different weapons, and smoothly transition between offence and defence.

Additionally, opponents will be divided into archetypes with their own behaviours and weaknesses. Some are meant to work in groups, while others will require breaking their guard or employing the right strategy before landing a finishing blow. All of this is intended to make the confrontations more tactical and less predictable.

Parkour and stealth inspired by Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Ubisoft has also improved character movement. Edward is meant to be faster, more responsive, and less "heavy" to control. Parkour has been revamped to resemble more modern installments of the series, particularly Assassin's Creed Shadows. Players will gain greater freedom of movement, the ability to climb more fluidly, perform side jumps, or use new paths while escaping and exploring. Changes will also occur in stealth. Crouching will no longer be assigned exclusively to specific cover, allowing for more natural movement in the shadows and planning of enemy eliminations. Classic gadgets are also returning, such as sleep darts, smoke bombs, or the rope dart, which are intended to enhance stealth capabilities.
