Small, light and actually mobile?
Hisense has not been slowing down in recent months. Just as the sub-brand Vidda showcased its strongest home projector, we already have another new release — this time something from a completely different category. The Hisense M2 Pro Smart Mini Projector is meant to be the smallest, lightest and most mobile projection device in the brand's offering. On paper, it looks interesting.
The projector itself is truly compact. With dimensions of 19 by 22 by 23 centimetres and weighing just under 4 kilograms, it can indeed be taken with you — although let’s be honest, more likely in a suitcase than a backpack. This is equipment that can be considered as an option for trips or meetings, rather than just for permanent installation at home.
4K and 1200 lumens but what about the image quality?
In terms of specifications, the M2 Pro looks solid. It supports a 4K resolution and can display an image with a diagonal of between 65 to even 200 inches. A brightness level of 1200 lumens offers a chance for daytime viewing, but — let's be honest — without thick curtains on a sunny afternoon, we’re unlikely to achieve that cinematic effect. In evening conditions, it will be more than sufficient.
Pure Triple Colour Laser — a proven system in a smaller package
The heart of the device is the well-known Pure Triple Colour Laser system, which uses three independent RGB light sources. A coverage of 110% of the BT.2020 colour palette offers great possibilities in colour reproduction. This is not a new technology for Hisense, but the challenge here was to fit it into a much smaller casing. The manufacturer claims that this is the first truly mobile 4K laser projector — and this argument is hard to dispute.
Automatic corrections — do they really help?
The automatic features also score points. We have the trapezoid autocorrect and an interesting option to adjust the image to the wall colour — if you have a lounge room in an orange shade or some other unusual colour, the projector will correct the white balance to make the image look as natural as possible. Additionally, there is an optical zoom ranging from 1.0 to 1.3, which provides a bit of flexibility when setting up the equipment in different conditions.
Sound, system and apps — are two speakers enough?
The Dźwiękowo M2 Pro doesn't try to compete with full-fledged audio systems, but it gets the job done. The two built-in speakers support Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X. For watching a series or film while away, they're perfectly adequate — although it's understood that in a cinema, most people would hook up external speakers.
The operating system is the well-known VIDAA OS. On board, you'll find Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube, which is exactly what most users need to get started. There are no unnecessary frills, but in equipment of this type, that's probably a plus, not a minus.
Price and availability — when and for how much?
The price in the USA has been set at 1299 dollars, with the launch scheduled for summer. The price in Australia could be around AUD 2000.
Is it worth it?
Is there something to get excited about? It usually depends. If someone is looking for a 4K mobile projector for occasional screenings—for trips, to the office, or even at home, but without the need to set up a large system—ChooseTV M2 Pro seems like an interesting option. However, if someone expects this equipment to permanently replace a large, powerful projector for the lounge, that's not the case. It's also worth waiting for the first tests—because as we know, specifications and nice pictures are one thing, while user experience is another. On paper, Hisense ChooseTV M2 Pro looks good. Now it remains to be seen whether it is indeed as practical and portable as the manufacturer claims.
